Visit with oncologist/eye doctor.

Saw the oncologist today, will start back on the Navelbine next Wednesday and also get the Xgeva shot. So next weekend will be a loss. I don't know about anyone else, but the bone shot makes my whole body ache for about a week. He thinks the Herceptin is slowing down the cancer. So I will go with it.

Saw the eye doctor before going to oncologist for blurred vision. I now have a cataract on my right eye that has wiped out the vision, and one starting on my left. Need to have surgery to remove. Says it could be from the meds. She said to have the oncologist refer and schedule with the eye center here. I felt like I was asking him for the moon, but she said if I call, they won't do anything without talking to him first because of the chemo.

I can't believe all that this disease can take from us. The worse is not being able to read or watch tv without closing one eye. I keep wondering what is next!

Good news is the chemo is working well enough to stay on it for at least another cycle.

    Sorry to hear about the side efforts of your shot. Hoping for the best with
    regards to any SE.

    Cataracts -- on top of all your woes, and worries. This sucks!

    Sorry to hear about your vision problems. I can't imagine...I have a hard enough time with just my reading glasses. I have diabetes and have check up once a year. My pressure test is always a little off, but never any problems like yours. I wish you all the best, hope it all works out for you. Complications are never fun.

    Isn't it great? Last Nov when I went for my anual eye appt. I figured I needed new glasses. Wrong - cataracts. Dr said probably from TXs but can't prove. Saw eye surgeon in Dec. Had surgery on first eye Feb 15 and second eye on the 29th.

    I saw Dr. today and healing wise both eyes are doing great. Right eye is fantastic on 'seeing', Left isn't but turned out there is a lot of scar tissue on the cornea (have no clue why - never had any injury).

    Chemo is working - eyes are a very 'easy' surgery with better vision after.

    Sorry that you have to include another doctor on your list. Those medication!! there is always something, while they are working it is a very promising news!

    I am on Tamoxifen and my eye
    I am on Tamoxifen and my eye dr did long exam (light in eyes) more then usual...he said due to Tamoxifen can mess up nerves in eyes. UNCOMMON but can...I am sure your dr knows all your meds!

    Carol, finally at least some good news....the chemo is working. That's the most important thing!! Cataracts, not so good. I'm sorry you have to go through all this. Enough is enough. At least the cataracts can be removed and you can be back to watching television and reading. I know it's a pain in the you know what but it is fixable.

    I will have my 11th Abraxane treatment next Thursday with the dreaded Neulasta shot on Friday. I'll be right there with you with the bone pain. I keep telling myself that through it all, it sure beats the alternative.

    But I'm glad the chemo seems to be working. I'm getting the Zometa infusion, and the first one went well (I took extra-strength Tums as directed by Nancy (MAJW) on this board) and didn't have the bone aches from it. I wonder if they would work for the Xegeva?

    It must be so frustrating to have those pesky cataracts. Some days all we can do are read and watch TV. I hope those get treated easily and quickly for you.

    Hang tough Carol--I know you will. Hoping next week isn't nearly as debilitating as you think.

    I take the tums but the bones still ache like crazy. It just seems like so much, but one of my favorite things is reading and it is hard to do when you can't see very well. I am glad that I am staying on this chemo as I know the side effects which is exhaustion and nausea but the infusion they give me now stops the nausea. I think that the Abraxane was the easiest.

    I don't know why he changed me from the Zometa to the Xegeva but I had the bone pain from that one too. Now I am trying to find an eye doctor that is on my insurance. I need a personal assistant to do all this insurance and tax stuff.:)) I am finding that I get overwhelmed now which is new for me. It use to take a lot before I got to that point.

    In 2003, a minor fall led to 3 vertebra fractures. It was recommended that I use bisphosphonates to strengthen my bones. I was offered zometa but, since I didn't want to go to the CancerCenter, I asked for Fosamax. In 2005, I developed uveitis, an autoimmune disease which is sometimes caused by bisphosphonates. I no longer use any type of this drug. It was noted that there were cataracts. One was really bad and the other one was going that way. Due to my eye condition, I had to wait until the disease calmed down. For me, it was one of the easiest surgeries I ever had. Due to my uveitis, the lens clouded up and I had to have them both lasered.

    I often told people that distance looked like an impressionist painting before the surgery. That is when I looked up Claude Monet. He painted how he saw with his cataracts, everything fuzzy.

    I use my glasses to drive only. No longer need them to read which is a bonus.

    It does seem that drugs do give us a domino effect at times.
