my wife just started experiencing severe spikes in blood pressure the last three days and was started on low dose meds. she was not hypertensive before chemo for her stage IV crc. this just started occuring after her 6 of 12 planned treatments.

after a review of the literature I found a conection between high blood pressure and Avastin (Bevacizumab).

any similar experiences?

    Incidently
It's one of the main side affects from Avastin. I've had high blood pressure for a few years, and am on medication for it. Probably because of the medication I normally take, I haven't seen spikes in my blood pressure. It's something that you should certainly be keeping an eye on. I know they check my blood pressure at the onc's office just before I head to the OOU and then there before I get the Avastin they check again.
High blood pressure isn't something to mess around with to be sure. My onc is always pestering me, making sure I'm taking my blood pressure pills because he doesn't want me to "stroke out" as he puts it, the one time my blood pressure was high, he did not let me get the Avastin. Serious matter, so keep a good eye out on it, and they put her on blood pressure medication, right?
Oh and another thing, the potassium, make sure that they are checking the potassium levels, I did have to take potassium pills for a week once, they will test the protein in the urine. They normally do this, but someone on here had problems because they were NOT checking the protein in her urine and that led to problems, so make sure they are testing for it each Avastin treatment.
    Here's to regulated blood pressure.

    Be careful
Be careful with high blood pressure. I'm sure your onc will monitor you real close to make sure it doesn't get too high. Pray everything goes well.

    On Avastin now myself along
On Avastin now myself along with Irinotecan but so far my BP hasnt shot up much. But Ive only has 3 treatments so far this go around. How many treatments into it when BP spiked or was it high right away?
Doing moderate exercise every-other day also.

From what I understand it would be doing it now, but that doesn't mean not to keep an eye on it. They check it often enough that they will notice if it goes up, once it goes up, it'll usually stay up with some reading a bit higher now and then, hence the spikes, but it will stay up without medication if your body has a propensity to react to it blood pressure wise. Which requires medication to lower it. But you never know, hence they keep a close eye on the blood pressure and it wouldn't hurt if you checked it and kept record of it about once a week either. Your moderate exercise is probably helping a lot too, to keep it lower. Keep up the good work!!
