Hi, I'm a cancer survivor who is working to help other patients/survivors.

Thinking about your treatments and side effects, physically, mentally, etc.

What type of items could someone give you to help make you more comfortable.

Example: I had dry mouth and nausea - fruit flavored hard candy helped. Reading helped me pass the time during chemo and transfusions.

Your feedback is appreciated. No idea is too small to list.

    Someone made me beautiful
Someone made me beautiful hand-knitted wool socks that I always wore when I had chemo. They are getting worn out now!

    this is so helpful!
I like to do needlework and knitting and cross-stitching really got my mind off things as well as attending knitting groups gave me small group support and got me out of the house.

I liked to get little packs of notecards so I had them on hand to send to others when I could not get out.

Someone made me a teal fleece blanket that was wonderful warm and soft and made with love.

    Lotion

    good books.

    cards, phone calls, visits

and I have to say I appreciated pain meds that I could take without feeling guilty and really feel better for a while.

    Feeling Better
Friends who would walk with me each day, even if just a 15 minute one.
Cards from friends and acquaintances that just said hello.
Interesting podcasts that took my mind off cancer and engaged me in some new ideas. Movies too.
Smoothies for breakfast (yogurt and frozen fruit blended up into a shake)
Visits and phone calls from the kids/grandchild.
Middle of the night snacks (dang! I was hungry!)
Massages (my neighbor was practicing for her massage therapy certification)

I also felt better when I could do the normal household tasks that keep my family functioning. It made me feel less like a patient.

    phone calls, cards. One of
phone calls, cards. One of the nicest gifts I receive was a large bag with a big C (for Carla) on the front of it. It was a gift from a neighbor who bought it for me to take my stuff for chemo treatments. Now I use it as an extra bag when I spend the night someplace.
