in Colorectal Cancer #1
My sons body is rejecting his first port.(he has only had this since november). The metal parts are pushing threw his skin, causing a scab.. He is scheduled to have a replacement in two weeks and resume chemo right after this replacement. Just wondering if he will have to replace this port every 2-3 months and if anyone has had this happen to them?

    Many have had problems with their port. Most of the problems stem from the inaccurate placement of needles not the actual port itself failing. (Many blame the port for failing.) Have your son tested for infection. A more likely cause of a problem. Not to say his body could reject a foreign object.

    My port also pushed close to the skin due to weight loss. It became difficult after 7 months. I had the port removed 2 weeks after chemo was done. The port felt like it was cutting me from the inside.

    ...for your response. I think his cbc was ok, so infection doesn't seem likely. I'm thinking it was the line placement. But then again he has lost alot of weight too. I hate that he has to go threw yet another surgery....

    Ports can stay in long.....years. Praying they put it in right. Seems like it wouldn't be too hard.
    Might want to ask if someone very experienced doing the next one. Not that the first time wasn't, but just want to plant the seed.

    My husband has a purple
    My husband has a purple power port and it has been in for three years with a few minor problems. I hope your son's port placement is better. It would be awful if his body rejected it. Each surgery is painful to watch.
