Hello. I normally post on the caregiver (to my late husband) or the thyroid (I have this type of cancer) board. I had a PET scan this week (to try and find why my blood levels for the thyroid were elevated, but nothing showed on the ultrasound or body scan) and it showed uptake to my left ovary. I am worried. Can anyone tell me the path that the doctor will take to determine if this is ovarian cancer? Thank you for your help

    blood test
is called a ca-125 and is used for ovca as it carries some proteins from the cancer in the blood stream. If it is elevated he may give you a transvaginal ultrasound. Please make sure you see a gyn\onc.....hope you don't have it..val

    Thank you
Thank you so much for the information. I am glad bloodwork can be used as a first step. I really hate the LARGE needles. I see my ENT today and will find out how to proceed (I am assuming he will refer me to a gyn?). Thank you again for responding to my post.

    please
see a gyno/oncologist as they specialize in women's cancer. They will be the ordering your blood test. You will also have a pelvic/rectal exam too. May the force be with you and no cancer.,,val

    I agree, find an oncologist
I agree, find an oncologist GYN. They can handle the question of the possible ovarian cancer better than anyone else. My gyn oncologist told me not to worry. It was not cancer until the lab confirmed it. Until then try to keep as calm as possible. No use in worrying about what may or may not be.

I went to my doctor today
and he ordered a pelvic ultrasound. He also called and got me an appointment with a gyn tomorrow. I have an MDanderson by me (in AZ) and I called to try and get an appointment. They advised me to have the ultrasound and go to the gyn. If the results are cancer, then I am to send all medical records to them and they will call me to schedule. I am scared. My husband passed away of head and neck cancer 2 years ago (we were married almost 25 years and have 3 kids, the youngest is 15). I ended up having to short sell our home and then was dx with thyroid cancer. Now that it seems to be under control this is happening. It has been such a long 4 years (Mike battled for 2 years with his cancer). I am tired and very worried. Thank you for letting me "talk"!
