We stopped the Reglan last week, dad seemed to be doing okay for a couple of days, but after physical therapy he was drained. I thought it was just PT and all the exercise. Thursday he was still tired. Didn't manage to eat much. Slept a lot. We finally figured he was dehydrated. Went in Friday morning, got two bags of fluid. Not able to eat. Dr prescribed Erythromycin (thought it may be delayed emptying of the stomach).
Dad went to have two more bags of fluid this morning and took the new med. Every side effect showed up within the hour. Nausea, dry heaves, diarrea, dizziness....
Doc said wait a couple of days and see.
But, he isn't eating.
We will call again tomorrow and talk about going back on the Reglan. Although the Reglan made him dizzy, he was able to eat and get the calories.
Has anyone else hit this brick wall? Or is it just a big bump. (He doesn't have a JTube, that was taken out before he went home.)
Thank you for all your help and thoughts,
Beth

ask about Dexamethasone
Beth,
Nick had GREAT success using Dexamethasone / Emend for nausea. It has an added benefit that you will like also - it increases the appetite
Nick used it during chemo round 2, but asked for a script after his Jtube was removed. We didn't realize it but he had a mental dependancy on the Jtube. He may not have used it once he returned home from surgery, but it was there as a backup in case he couldn't keep up. Once the Jtube was pulled, he couldn't eat. Dexamethasone to his rescue!
Let me know if that works for your dad. Hope so!
Prayers, hugs & love!
