Hi All,

I have been following your posts for awhile now. You all have such great advice and support for each other, I am hoping that you can give me a little help.

I have a relative who will be have rectal surgery at the cleveland clinic in florida very soon. I was hoping you might know of this place and the success rate.

She has had chemo/rads and is a young mom in her 40s. She was told that she might be able to have an ileostomy. She had a little tumor shrinkage with the chemo/rads.

Any advice or suggestions that I may be able to share with her or just help me to understand, would be so great.

Positive thoughts and prayers are always welcome...

Thanks so much

    Hi
My husband just had surgery this last Thursday (rectum resection with temporary iliostomy), still facing procedure to block off bad side of liver and and then liver rection . It's not an easy surgery but we believe it is worth it. We are still here in hospital at UW Madison, WI. God bless you and your family, sounds like she has everything to fight for. :)

    My husband had his surgery
My husband had his surgery at th CC Florida on 3-25-11. His surgeon was Dr Wexner. I hope that he was as good in the operating room as he looks on paper ie his credentuals. My husband had a 14 day stay but really dont think it had anything to so with the surgeon. He had an Ilius which is when the bowels refuse to wake up. He had a long hard recovery but others seem to do very well. He is 46 years old and had his rectum removed with a temporary ilistomy. We return to Fl 12-16 for his reversal. Don't hesitate to ask many questions, we found that the surgeons fellows were much more helpful than the surgeon himself. Please if you have any questions dont hesitate to PM me. I wish I had had this forum to lean on during the time of surgery and I wish I had the knowledge then that I have now. I wish your sister well! Stephanie

PS Please keep me posted and let me know who her surgeon is.

    Lisha,You might look on the
    Lisha,
You might look on the ACS info site for information on ileostomies at http://www.cancer.org/Treatment/TreatmentsandSideEffects/PhysicalSideEffects/Ostomies/IleostomyGuide/index
Also, www.ostomy.org is specifically about ostomies.
Living life with an Ostomy can be trying at times, but it is way better than dying. There are several here on this form how have or have had ostomies if you have any specific questions. And at Ostomy.org forums there are young moms with ostomies dealing with life just fine. That might be a real encouragement for your relative.
Can't tell you a thing about the clinic in Cleveland, FL, except how to spel it - sorry.

    Cleveland Clinic is Amazing
Hi there... I go to Cleveland Clinic for rectal cancer. I am not cancer free and am doing the follow-up monitoring. I cannot recommend this hospital enough. My doctor is Dr. Dana Sands. Absolutely love her! Everyone from the doctors, nurses, the office side to the hospital side, is wonderful. All of your records are kept at the hospital so your chemo doctor can see what your surgeon says, all your meds are in the computer for all doctors you see, etc.

If you are from South Florida, you may have seen me on Channel 4. I did a commercial for Cleveland Clinic. I strongly recommend them.
