My husbands pet scan came back and it was good that the only thing they see is 4 tumors in the liver. the are not localized but scattered, so at the end of the 4 rounds of chemo we will rescan and itnsound like rfa is an option? he had his first oxi/avastin infusion last Friday and will do that every 3 weeks along with taking xeloda everyday 2 weeks on one off. the treatments are kicking his a@! this time compared to 2 years ago when he wasn't on avasin. could it be the avastin? I am soooo sad for him and feel so helpless. thanks everyone! alex

    Avastin
The avastin is very mild in most everyone, it's side affects are not a long list. I would suspect the oxi. He is on the same regime I was on, my tumors shrank enough (I so many in the liver, that was the reason why they said resection would never be an option and yet, the chemo ended up making all but two disappear, and those two were taken out during my liver resection).
I'm sorry it's kicking his butt, but I would suggest talking to onc and seeing if he can get by on a little less chemo (same chemo's, just not as much)and see if that helps any.
Here's hoping the side affects lessen for him.

I'm sure most of the issues comes from oxy. despite that avastin
has it's own issues that can be also unconfortables , hugs my friend! and get patience !

    Treatment
Treatments are just hard depending on what you get. Some people can work right through while others are really sick. Hoping that he feels better soon.

Hi, my husband is also on the same chemo as your husband, he has had 4 rounds, and will continue untill he can not cope with it. dx stage 3c Aug 10 and then relapse July 11, to the peritoneal and spot on lung and liver he has a scan on the 17th Oct. He has problems with the oxy, he had a reaction the first time, so has meds help that but his throat suffers. I hope things improve for you both wising you all the best.

    Was he on Xeloda before?
I was on Folfox, and when that finished they had me on Xeloda along with radiation.

I was unable to tolerate Xeloda, and found it much worse than 5fu.

Hi, his first chemo oxaliplatin and avastin iv caused a reaction to the cold as he was leaving the chemo unit, his throat went into spasms. So he has anti drugs before each chemo now to stop this happening again, but he still has problems with the cold.

Hi: I had a terrible reaction to oxaliplatin on my first treatment (with irenotecan and 5FU); the first glass of cold water was a big mistake. However, my oncologist reduced the amount and infusion rate of the oxaliplatin and I'm taking L-Glutamine, Vit B6, calcium/magnesium, and Alpha Linoic Acid every day and haven't had a problem since - I can even eat ice cream right after. I have just finished my 10th treatment. So worth giving those supplements a try. May not work for everyone but it sure helped me.

After a week he has started
After a week he has started to feel better! So that's good. This time around, they upped the xeloda from 2 years ago. Maybe that was the culprit. One day at a time! Have a great Sunday everyone!
