vaccine therapy

in Ovarian Cancer #1
Anybody have any type of vaccine therapy? I have clear cell ovarian and drugs are not working. what drugs have worked for you? Dr suggest md anderson. What are your experiences there?

    Sorry this is off topic: I have a friend with clear cell OVCA and she was in the same position as you--nothing could put her in remission after 9 different chemos over two years.

    I checked around online and found that clear cell OVCA is very similar to clear cell KIDNEY cancer and that some women with OVCA respond to the chemo that is used for clear cell kidney cancer.

    For clear cell kidney cancer, they use a drug called Torisel. My friend is doing well on it so far. You might want to see if your insurance will cover that drug for you--you can still pursue the vaccine therapy as it is a clinical trial for women in remission. First, you have to get in remission.

    Well, that sucks!
    I am really sorry to hear that your cancer just won't quit. I know that there are others on the discussion board who had clear cell and WERE able to get into remission.

    My personal belief is that the key to survival is with immune therapy. Some people are blessed with an immune system that kicks in after chemo and they enjoy a long remission. Chemo is a "necessary evil" to slow down the cancer and give your immune system time to adjust.

    I know that there are cancer clinics that offer stem cell therapy where your immune system is boosted to fight cancer so that you have a better chance of getting into remission survive. I am about ready to head for Mexico myself as I have NEVER been in remission since I was diagnosed August 2010--but I was able to prevent disease progression by being under the care of an integrative osteopath. I have been getting acupuncture and high-dose IV vitamin C treatments weekly since October 2010.

    I took a chemo holiday in March and my CA-125 just jumped up this month. The oncologist expects me back in chemo by October. I am not symptomatic--no ascites or other symptoms at all. I feel really well but I know that if my next CA-125 is still over 200, I HAVE to do something.
