Scans, radiation, recovery, posting

Hey guys,

It's been awhile though I've popped in a couple times to see how everyone was doing. I've missed you guys.
My first PET since treatment came back with a hot spot on my left hip. Thought/hoped it was just inflammation from a crazy mountain bike ride I did the day before. MRI showed it was actually bone mets. Damn! So; doc pounded the bone with 10 days worth of radiation in 2 days week before last. Should do the trick. Having some pain but not so bad now. First few days after radiation was rough with the inflammation from the rads. As always, no shortage of pain meds from the docs. Hopefully all done with the meds now. Been weaning off of them for the last few days and possibly won't take any today. A bone doc over at UCSF took a good look and said bones are just fine and no reason to restrict activity so I started running a few days ago. Been climbing a lot recently too and looking forward to a backpacking trip in a couple weeks. Life goes on. Docs think the cancer was there all along and all that chemo last year just didn't get it because chemo isn't so effective on bone. They also think it will keep popping up here and there until... My Chinese medicine guy thinks this is the last of it and that I could be done with cancer and treatment forever. Man I love my Chinese medicine guy! Either way; life is still amazing, beautiful, full and I'm still in it. This old body (I just turned 40 2 weeks ago) is still climbing rocks and mountains and continues to carry this old soul around. Until the day it decides not to I'll keep enjoying what this amazing world has to offer in the way of people, places and experiences.
Always nice to come here and share with you all. I wish we could be walking a different trail together, something nice and gentle with amazing views, but it's good to be walking with friends no matter what.

Your friend and brother,

AB

    Congrats
Glad you're back up and doing what you like....

Hopefully you'll be done with this cancer chapter of your life other than viewing it as a survivor.

    Hey Bob!
    AB,

Glad to see you back posting. Sorry to hear about the c in the bone, but I'm going with your Chinese medicine guy and say you've got this thing licked. Sounds like you have been a busy man - climbing, biking, backpacking. Awesome! Glad to hear you're back in the swing of things!

Hang tough Bob and nice to see ya here again!

    Hey Bob,

Hopefully this is the last you will see of the C. I think its great that you're not letting this latest episode get you down and you're still out doing the things that you love. Stay strong and Happy Trails! Cheers.

    Hi Bob

Sorry to hear you had to go through the rad stuff again but really glad to hear you did so well coming out of it. Those old Chinese medicinal guys are wonderful I call mine the witch doctor because of all the different mixtures of stuff he has to give you. A few months ago when I was in Honduras my brother and I was on his farm and wanting some Mangos. There were none on the lower limbs so before I knew it he was up in the tree picking them; I told him get your 65 years old azz out of that tree before you fall. He looks and said I do this everyday old boy that is what keeps me fit. Then I said man I wish I could still clime a tree but I am afraid my 55 year old radiated body can’t take it anymore. Just glad you are still going, so don’t stop or you will get like me.

Wishing you the best my freind

Sorry to hear you had to face rads again but thankful that you have once again beat cancer. 40 is not old, besides age is a number onlt. Jim turned 78 today and he still hiked, biked, fished and jogged until this cancer diagnosis. Keep your positive attitude, you have many years to go.

Bob, I must say you are a "one of a kind". You are an inspiration to all c. patients. I hope someday to meet you but I doubt if I could keep up. Well keep doing what you love and hopefully the Chinese doctor is right. Wouldn't that be nice! Take Care, Homer & Connie

    Thank you friends
All your kind words always mean so much to me and help to get me up the next mountain. While I'm up there I often throw up some prayer stones or just ask for strength and healing for all of us. I look forward to the walks and talks and of course the meals (no water needed) we'll all share in the next place where cancer and sickness don't exist.

May your spirits be lifted today.

    Hey AB
Looks like we are going to miss that Giants game this year, but I just changed jobs and had no time at all....So sorry this bone thing popped up. Damn! I will be thinking about you AB and offering up a little prayer to get the hip healed and keep you on the mountain. I got you by 20 years, but I still feel forty in my mind! I was cleaning gutters on the roof last week and my wife made me promise never to go on the roof again. I told her I wouldn't (while she was around anyway) I feel too young and active to let someone clean my gutters.. I'm with you Bob, enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of every day. I try hare to do just that..
    Be well Bob,
    Steve
