Hi all - I have followed the recent "flames" with interest. It's a common thing on message boards - I know there are folks with Ph.D's who actually study this stuff. In part I rarely post because I am 6+ years surviving Stage 4 and need some space (even though I know a recurrence is possible at any moment). The drama does disturb me and how everything turns political - attacking other countries, individuals etc. I am not the only old timer who is disturbed by / not interested in the drama. I first joined this board in summer 2005. I got much support - sadly from many folks who have now passed. I also loved giving support to people (sadly most now passed.) At this point I am less able to give support (i.e. some treatment protocols have changed and amazingly enough we start to forget the worst details!). I still wish we could all agree to disagree as they say. But, every time someone suggests that, it seems to start another flame! Colon Club has its own flames, but seems to be less inflammatory. So, I now mostly go to that board. Betsy diag. Stage IV, 5/05, liver met lap sigmoid colectomy, 6/05 |

PM me. It's fine. I'm happy to talk to anyone; just not so happy to get into one of those internet arguments!

One of the things that seems different there is that no one cries insult or damage when someone else disagrees with them. Some very brilliant people over there.

Agree, some very smart folks there.
However, there are also smart people here. Just somehow seems to get out of hand more often.

If you like the Colon Club so much why don't you just stay there? I don't see you posting on that site unless your under another name there.
The colon club is far from perfect, I lurk so I read posts and know what goes on, they have their own arguments. I know some of you frequent that site a lot, and it helps to get info from both sides.
Yes I got annoyed at a poster for having a go at Great Britain yesterday, but I had a very tiring day, I had a funeral to attend of my uncle in another city. So I jumped the gun when I read it, but I was told calmly when I asked for it to be interrupted that the poster was having a go at both countries. So I apologise to the poster.
I have found this site to be more like my online second family then any other site. Colon club it's a good site but I just can't click with it like I do with this site. Also Daily strength is another good site, but I don't go there any more.
If I was to say I had a group on facebook with some brilliant people on it, how would everyone feel?
All boards have their own problems and arguments, just up to the individuals to try and work with each other.
Kathi M said something wise today as she always does, why don't we fight cancer instead of fighting each other.

Whose fighting?
I participate on four CRC forums. Of the four, I find this one and Colon Club to be the most useful.
Oh, and you will find the name the same on each.

Hi Betsy
I find that too often people can't acknowledge that there are other opinions out there and also that an
opinion ≠ fact.
I think demographics also play a part. People behave/react differently in different parts of the country or in the world. Not that anyone is any better, it's just that we're different and at times things that may go over fine in one area do not go over well in other areas.
I still find that the site has a lot to offer and that my being actively in treatment can help people understand that one can live a fairly normal life while still dealing with cancer.
It's the usual hot topics that set people off and usually they are topics that have no absolute answer, just opinions on how to treat something or what belief system is the right one.
