Praying everyone is OK in Virginia. I felt my building shake, and I am in NYC, at work, 19th FL. Scary but also ironic. Please let us know you're doing OK.

P.S. First thought I had: If I went through 8 chemo treatments, 16 radiation, and 3 weeks of tamoxifen, there is no way the roof will fall on my head.

Felt it in south central PA for sure!
No real damage here but I'm trying to get hold of my niece in Harrisonburg, VA, not too far away. She just moved there over the weekend.

Echo those prayers for everyone's safety! Airports in the area closed briefly.

    We're OK in Richmond Virginia
I had to jump under a desk with my boss. It was a little scary but we're all OK. Everything shook for what seemed like a long time.

Now all we have to do is stay out of the path of that hurricane Irene! Thanks for checking on us here in Virgina!

    I too hope
everyone is ok. My husband called me from work where he had been evacuated. He works in the Hartford area of CT. Commentary about how the east coast 5.9 earthquake was felt differently than if it had hit on the west coast because of our soil. The news also showed that several hours earlier one had hit the Denver, CO area. Two earthquakes in 12 hours time. Scary!

Hope all of the East Coasters are okay
Also, hoping Irene goes out to sea and leaves the coastline alone.

Thanks for all of the updates
Sounds really scary. Am so glad everybody is ok, even though some might have had to be a little too close to the boss.

Wishing you all a Tropical Storm instead of a Cat 4 hurricane, or maybe she could just change her mind and go harmlessly out in the ocean somewhere. One thing about midwestern tornadoes is we don't have to dread them for days....of course we don't get much warning so it's a double edged sword.

    Be safe everybody!

I;m here in Virginia and was in my car
at the time of the earthquake and didn;t feel it. I was on my way to radiation and when I got there they were backed up since they had to check that the radiation machines were not knocked out of alignment by the earthquake.

When I got home I saw some pictures had been knocked down so I guess the house had been rattling.

East coast rock has been described as "old & cold"
that's why the difference. Everyone here is okay. My aunt in Vienna, VA had things knocked around. My niece in Harrisonburg was on the way to Lancaster, PA, to her old apartment to get the carpets cleaned and wrap things up there so she felt nothing. They are checking bridges and nuclear plants in PA but not finding any major damage. 3 older houses near us lost bricks from chimneys etc. I forget all the technical stuff they were sharing this morning on NPR but it was pretty interesting. Too bad I was driving and couldn't take notes.

Prayers for everyone's safety as Irene closes in.

We felt it here, southern tier NY
Very odd sensation, gave me a little vertigo. Very minor here, a few pictures moved.
