How to strenghten leg.....I fell again!

Options
I have breast cancer that moved to bone mets in my hip/leg. This happened Jan. 2010, had rads and then this summer had lots of pain and had rads again. Now my knee is completely numb and just randomly gives out and I feel (or sometimes do) like I will fall. Today I was picking up lunch at Subway and went out to the car went to step in and my leg gave out and there I lay beside my car. I have NEVER had it happen like that and it scared the heck out of me. I pulled myself and my pride up got in the car and went home but now my body hurts and my leg feels completely weak. The doc just says "nerve damage" but what can I do to stop this? I have a brace, hate it. I thought about water aerboics but what if I can't get in and out of the pool. At this rate I am afraid to go to the store and buy groceries I don't need to fall down in the middle of the store. I hate, hate, hate living in fear and if cancer is bad enough but now my butt is falling down in public? HELP!!!

My experience is it only needs to happen once to loose your self confidence. I would try water aerboics with a friend that can help you if your leg gives out. It happened to me once in the water and I ask the person next to me, to help me to the side of the pool. After a while, I was able to move up the steps to the dressing room.

Wear the brace and use a cane. Leave your pride at home. It's better not to fall and do damage than worry what other people think of you.

I hope you have a disability card for parking as it would help you a lot. Your able to park closer to the store. Most people with disability leave a shopping cart near by. I use my cane and then lean on the shopping cart until I leave the store. I leave the cart so another handicap person will have one to use.

    Hope this helps you.

    My best,

I am so sorry this happened
I am so sorry this happened to you. I wish I could offer some help or advice, but, I don't really know what you should do. Has your oncologist or any other doctor said that something else can be done, or, something else you should be doing?

    Praying for you,

    Angie

I wish I had some miracle or insight that would provide
answers for you. I hope and pray that your Oncologist can provide relief and answers for you. Check into any specialist that can help resolve your nerve damage from increasing.

    Strength, Courage and Hope.

I hear you loud and clear. I have had a fear of falling for more than 5 years. I started falling in 2006 and shattered my right shoulder on the garage floor inches from my car. I fell a total of 5 more times, fracturing my other shoulder before my orthopedic sent me to a neurologist. He dx me with cervical spinal stenosis. I had 3 vertebra collapsed pressing on my spinal cord. I had 3 disc fusion done in 2008 and a torn meniscus in my knee. Memorial Day 2011 I fell off the top step of my brick patio and landed hard. I fear that went through my mind of never being able to take care of myself with no arm movement possible was awful. My DH brought me to the ER and OMG I was so relieved to hear xrays showed no new damage. My arm & chest were black & blue for a month. I have a knee brace which I confess I don't wear all the time. I also have a cane. I try to do PT in my house to strength my muscles. I am now on Arimidex (Anastrozole) which can cause bone loss. My rheumatologist does a bone density every year. Falling or having a knee give out can be very unnerving. I try to move slowly but often forget. Please be careful and I hope you don't fall again.
