Surgery has been cancelled...

Dear all,

After all the discussion, my mum had made a very difficult decision for herself - one more surgery to remove the new mets in liver and lung. BUT got a call from the lung surgeon today and told us it's not possible to remove them. Instead of 4, there are 6 of them in the lung and they are just too small to be seen and to be removed. Extremely disappointed... don't know how to explain my feeling when I got this news, my head was spinning, my legs were trembling and my heart was pounding fast. When hope was given in one minute and was taken away in the next minute ...

I will call the oncologist tomorrow and hopefully she can start chemo as soon as possible and most importantly, she will respond well to the new chemo regimen (irrinotecan + avastin).

I'm so sorry for being so weak and I really do need your support.
Love Dora

I will pray fo you and your family, but I want you to understAnd that you are not weak. If you were weak, you would have given up and shipped your mom to a facility a long time ago without any regard to her feelings. You are strong and sensitive to your mom's pain and illness.

    Dear Dora
You are doing very well by your mother and I am sure she knows it. It is ok to feel angry, upset, disappointed, etc when the treatment world seems to be built on shifting sand.

First, no surgery on the lungs doesn't sound like a bad thing especially since the mets are too small to be seen for removal...that small is a GOOD thing.

I don't recall the specifics about her liver mets, Was the same surgeon doing lungs going to do liver? If not you may want to get a status from the liver surgeon before restart of chemo.

Best wishes to your mom that new treatment works wonders and zaps those mets.

Don't ever be sorry for reaching out...we all need support from time to time.

    Hugs,

    sorry
    Hi Dora,

Sorry to hear about your mum's surgery being cancelled. -sigh- I can only imagine the disappointment in hearing that they won't be able to instantly get all the tumors out. I'm in the same situation with not being able to qualify for surgery. You can always try to get another opinion, but if they're small, then this opinion is probably correct. If they're small, maybe they'll respond well to starting up a new chemo. We'll think positive on that! You take care & don't feel apologetic about needing support- that's why CSN exists!

    Hugs,
    Lisa

too small may be better news than surgery! since if chemo
is working can be easily removed just by chemo ! there are some examples here!, less risk for your mom !.
    Hugs Dora!

    Disappointing
That is very disappointing, especially after the anticipation of it. Thinking and praying for her.
