Fluid Buildup

I have a very good question here. How can you be dehydrated, but your ankles and feet are swollen. My mom was on Lasix in the hospital. I called her cancer doc and he put her back on it, but I did not realize that she was dehydrated. I also asked for something to boost her appetite in which the doctor did give her something. Has anyone else experienced this? I just don't get it.

Her physical therapist came to see her today. She is a little weak, but her biggest problem is her endurance level. She needs to build up her muscles. Her lungs are included, too because she does not want to stay on oxygen. Just a thought.

Back when I was filled with
Back when I was filled with ascites fluid a Gastroenterologist they sent me to,(to have the fluid drained)prescribed lasix for me and I was dealing with getting dehydrated. When I went to Dr Bevers, gynecologic oncologist, he told me not to take them as they wouldn't reduce the problem I had with ascites or edema in my ankles and would only dehydrate me. He recommended that I cut back on salt consumption and take time to put my feet up. Hope this helps and hope your Mom gets some strength back!

    My mom doesn't have any
My mom doesn't have any endurance strength of her muscles. The fluid was in her lungs. She is also on oxygen which I heard dehydrates you. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. My mom took herself to the bathroom today by herself and got off the toilet by herself also. My mom said the funniest thing yesterday. I did laugh and she didn't care. She said, "Karen, I guess I am just too mean and stubborn to die." she's tough but I am worried about her. She is also doing pt which will help.

    Thanks,
