2 more boost treatments then what?

in Breast Cancer #1
I have 2 more boost treatments to go and then I am finished with my rads. What happens after that? Do I still get seen by the radiology oncologist or do I move on?

About how long does it take to get back to "normal"? When does the redness go away? When does the tiredness go away? I am truly exhausted!

I meet with my breast surgeon on the 6th of June. I guess that's when I'll be put on tamoxifen?

I can't believe how quickly this has gone by. The 6 and 1/2 weeks flew. To think, I was so afraid of getting them : ) You have all truly helped me get through them. I don't know if it would have been so easy w/o all of you! Thanks for being there when I needed you most.

    I saw my radiologist I think a month later, then about every 3 months. It has almost been a year, so I figure they may move me to every 6 months soon.

    I guess everyone is different about the redness. It just gets progressively better and better every day. My doctor told my to keep using my creams as long as I wanted to. I honestly didn't get burnt too bad, mostly just underneath my breasts. I am not overly endowed, so I just wore tank tops for a while and that seemed to be more comfortable.

    You are probably right about the tamoxifen too. Even thought they knew my cancer was estrogen possitive before the chemo and radiation, they didn't start me till a couple of months after my last radiation treatment.

    Did you have Great radiation techs??? Mine were awesome!!! I actually missed them when I quit going, but always say hey to them at check ups.

    The techs were fantastic.
    The techs were fantastic. This was a small place. There big center was a little further than I wanted to drive every day. This place took 10 minutes. Since it was a small office there were only 4 techs and I got to know all of them. One was nicer than the other. I never waited for my treatments. I would arrive 20 minutes or more before my appointment some days and be taken right away. That's what made going even more painless. I didn't have to sit and stew every day. I would walk in, change and go right on the table. It was great! I will miss them all. Even the doctors were wonderful. I met 4 of them while there. Just yesterday one of the docs grabbed me and hugged me. He said it made his heart feel great when one of his patients would greet him with a smile!! They are a warm group of people for sure : )

    CONGRATULATIONS!! You are almost a rad grad! My medical onc. started me on my Arimidex (post menopausal version of Tamoxifen) about a month after radiation. The redness goes away gradually. The sores, etc. were all healed within a week or 2. I still have a well-tanned left breast (ended 1/7). The exhaustion also gradually goes away. One day I just realized I wasn't tired any more. It was the BEST feeling. Good luck! Just remember to be patient with yourself!

    Everybody's different!
    I saw my Rad Dr quite a few times in the first 6 weeks post Rads because of the burns. (I never had 'boosters'.) I saw him 3 mths after last Fad and again at 6 mths - unless 'something' comes up he never wants to see me again - as long as I see my other Drs. I saw my surgeon early April and he never wants to see me again as long as I see my PA every 6 mths (not a problem she's been my PA for about 15 yrs.). I next see my Chemo DA in early Aug. (2 yrs post DX) and don't know what he'll say then. I know for sure that my Pa is not going to tell me she doesn't want to see me anymore and she is FANTASTIC so if i get told then to just keep seeing her (nless there is a problem) I'm great with that. I also see my PA's RN (or the Nursing Supervisor) every 4 weeks to have my post flushed so I can always see her/ask questions if necessary monthly.

    What happend to me
    When it was over was I kept using the creams and i will go back every 3 months and the burn would clear faster than it came and that was true i finished my last rad treatment on April the 8th and now im a little tender still the tiredness is going away and now I'm going for a pet/scan on saturday. MOLLYZ

    I continued to massage my rad area and the redness went away quickly. I too was surprised how quickly rads was done. I saw my rad onc one month later and I see him again in 6 months. My med onc I will see every 3 months. I see breast surgeon next month as it will be one year since my mastectomies. As for getting back to normal - I don't know. I'm still very fatiqued and I finished rads Feb 15th.

    Hi, my experience was similar to others...Finished rads in March 2010 and radiation followed chemo the fall before. It took about three months post rads to feel more energetic for me. My skin didn't burn too bad (and I am a redhead) but I used the creams and it got better pretty quickly. BEST WISHES!!
