I ache, I ache, I ache, my shoulders seem like the weight of the world is upon them, every movement hurts. This goes on for a couple of weeks at a time. Does anyone else have this?

    Hi
Oh, Winter Marie, I'm so sorry to hear thar you're hurting. :-( I wish I could help to take the pain away... Rick just had his first dose of Avastin today, so he's not having many issues yet. I'll mention this possible side effect to him. Hugs dear, and I hope that you're feeling better soon. Cyn

    Wow! My husband just had
Wow! My husband just had his 3rd round of it. He has been feeling very achey. I didn't realize it was from the avastin. Have you talked to your doctor about this? What did they say? I wish I could take the pain away from all of you. My best to you.

    Aches
I've been feeling this the past couple of months after infusion. Now mind you, I've had the avastin and Xeloda at the same time, so was unsure of which was the culprit. However, this time, it was the Avastin on Friday, the aches started on Saturday, and because I couldn't afford the Xeloda this time, I can only blame the Avastin, power of deduction, LOL.
I've been suspecting the Avastin, but because I only had Avastin and ache is back, I know for sure, this seems to last a couple of weeks, goes away for about a week, and then back again after infusion.

    it depletes minerals
    Hi,

I used to have bone and joint aches & I haven't had any now for awhile since my naturopath told me that chemo and Avastin deplete minerals in the body & this often accounts for the joint and bone aches. Since I started regularly taking potassium, calcium, and magnesium twice a day, no more aches! It only came back when I ran out for a week- didn't even realize the connection until I went in for an appt and at the end mentioned my aches and "oh, by the way I need to get more minerals- I ran out". He just smiled and said "there you go- the reason for your aches returning. Give yourself a couple of days back on the minerals & I bet the aches will go away." He was right and they did.
    Try it- can't hurt!!

    Hugs,
    Lisa

    Thank you
thank you Cyn and Gerryo so much for your kind thoughts, it's so tiresome, I guess that's what we call pains now, tiresome. Although I ate a banana an hour ago, and I THINK it's eased up a bit. I think I'll drink a glass of my nice calcium fortified vitamin D milk to the mix and see if that helps as well.

    the pain
I told my Onc 3 weeks ago, I didn't know how much longer I could stand this pain. He had x-rays taken and all shows good, so it can only mean muscle aches from the avastin. Will, try a banana a day and at least one glass or two of milk.

    So sorry for your discomfort
So sorry for your discomfort Winter Marie. I never had Avastin. I will send some good thoughts for comfort your way. I know it sounds petty compared to cancer and chemo...but have you tried a heating pad? I don't know what the effect of Afastin does on the circulatory but the heat would open up your vessels and allow more oxygen and better circulation..maybe some comfort..just a thought? I hope you feel better!

    Love, Gail

    Some people don't like supplements...
I know some people avoid using supplements, preferring to get their needs met solely from their diet, but it can be very difficult to consume enough to support needs, especially with cancer issues involved.

Here's an excerpt from the page on potassium I linked to:
From 11 years old through adulthood, the suggested amount is 3,100 to 3,500 milligrams of potassium every day. One banana contains 440 milligrams, and a medium baked potato contains 450. Take a look at your diet, and if you are not reaching these numbers regularly, you should adjust your diet or add a dietary supplement.

Try exercise maybe? I know that may sound strange but sometimes lack of mobility can cause pains. I did Avastin over 7 years ago, it had just been approved by the FDA so I got to do 6 months of it prior to my first surgery. I also got myself a kayak shortly after being DX. My thinking was that I wanted to get into as good of shape as I could before the operation so I'd bounce back quicker. I wound up kayaking for 81 consecutive days. I would take my pump and seal it in a baggie and go out, usually in the mornings. I did not start out with that in mind, one day turned into two, then three and so on. I stopped 2 days before my operation. I really didn't ache much at all during that time.
Now is a different story...I take a nap and wake up sore. I'm finding that I do not do enough exercise at all. I have gone out one or twice and I've been busy with yardwork at my house and taking care of my Mom's yard too. Still, I must be using muscles I thought I had!

    I know you
had your surgery in Dec, and they did ALOT...I do know when surgeons start mucking about your insides, especially around the diaphragm, you can get shoulder pain. apparently there are nerves that run to your shoulders around that area. Robert has suffered with shoulder pain ever since his first liver resection in July 09. That has been his main complaint since that sx. Mobic seems to help some. Hope you are feeling better!!
