Hi everyone,

Does anyone out there has had any experience with targeted chemo?? Could you possibly give me some more info about this??

My husband might be considered for this "new" (?) therapy.

thank all of you and wishing you a good day, never give up hope and faith, in life, in miracles,

Hetty

does anyone have an approximate timescale for mental functions to regain some normality after a resection? My wife is very unaware of her surroundings.

    Have you seen a neurologist?
I am not a doctor, but a lot of that probably depends on where the resection was and how well the surgery went and where, if there is any tumor left, the tumor is. I would recommend you get a consultation with a neurologist. Depending on where you are, there may not be much of a multi-disciplinary approach to your care. Are you seeing a neuro-oncologist? Or more of a general medical oncologist? A neurologist might be the best to make sense of her symptoms.

    Best of luck,
    JG

could you describe what targeted means?
i recently got a consultation at UCSD where they requested my tumor sample to do a genetic analysis and look for specific markers. The idea is to place me in a clinical trial that better aligns my tumor type with the correct medication. it is definitely a cutting edge approach versus just handing out the standard therapy. It falls under the new category of personalized medicine, but you would need to go to a major hospital that specialized in neuro-oncology to get this kind of approach.

    Best of luck,
    JG

she recovered her cognitive functions but has not regained the use of her right side arm or leg. The neurologist is pleased with the results. The movement was lost prior to the operation. Next stop the oncologist for some sort of alkylation agent combined with targetted radiation. Need to discuss these soon. There is a complete team employed

    targeted chemo
    Hi JG,

go to google and type in : " targeted chemo" it will bring you to a site which is called " gizmag". once there you will find a very clear explanation of what targeted chemo is about.
I do think it is still in studies or clinical trials.

May I know what type of tumor you have and where it is situated and what treatment you had sofar?

best of luck to you too,

    kind regard,
    Hetty
