Remission:
A period during which symptoms of disease are reduced (partial remission) or disappear (complete remission). With regard to cancer, remission means there is no sign of it on scans or when the doctor examines you. Doctors use the word 'remission' instead of cure when talking about cancer because they cannot be sure that there are no cancer cells at all in the body. So the cancer could come back in the future, although there is no sign of it at the time.
"The tumor-free time period, and is dated from the first, not the last, therapy session. Patients with tumors that recur within one month of treatment ending are considered to have had no remission. Disappearance of all disease is complete remission; reduction tumor size by more than 50 percent is considered partial remission."

Sue has it right on the nose. My treatments ended on Sept.2010. My scan was done on Oct. 15th and there was no sign of the disease. I was in remission. My next scan was read in March 2011 and still no signs. John

I pray for complete remission from cancer, for my husband. And all cancer patients!!!!
