    I'm inland
In the middle of the central valley, so I'm safe. Hope our coastal friends will have minimal effects. I'm staying glued to CNN.

Who's on the coast in California?
Off the top of my head, I'm thinking that maybe only Victoria (aisling8) lives in a beach area that we know of....Victoria, hope you can check in -- have you had to evacuate? Any others here live on the beach?

On a positive note, the latest predictions from CalTech are that the waves may only be a couple of feet once they reach Southern California -- they've closed most beaches, but they're not expecting major damage.

I got a post from one of my FB friends who was night diving last night off San Clemente Island~ when he surfaced, the dive boat was over 1/2 a mile away~ he had to make the long, scary swim to the boat!!!! To say he was surprised is an understatement; he had NO idea what had happened until he got on the boat!

I am about 30 miles from the ocean with a 1000' moutain range between it and me.

I was watching CNN, but had to stop. So devastating with nothing tangible I can do. I know I will check back in later, but I had to pull away. :-(

    Hard to believe the pictures
Hard to believe the pictures in Japan. This is just horrible!

And, if that isn't enough, they are talking about the moon on March 19th, and, what might happen.

Has anyone heard or know about that?

I'm inland as well, with mountains between me and the coast. But there were parents at my daughters school who kept their children at home because of the tsunami warnings...makes you wonder.

My prayers and thoughts are with those who are dealing with the mess this is creating.

    INLAND
I too am inland in the central valley of Calif, no problems here. I watched it last night, however I spent much of today at the doctors with my husband who apparently has the beginnings of shingles...ugh! I just turned the news back on so so sad!

Shows you how well I know my Southern California geography...
New Flower, I didn't realize that you and Bella Luna lived so close to the beach....I'm very grateful that Southern California wasn't affected nearly as much as initially feared.

Linda, I'm about 30 miles inland, and I have to say that, after hearing the first reports of "Tsunami Headed for California," even I had a momentary thought that maybe I should stay home from work. But then, just as I was heading out, I heard Lucy Jones, the Cal Tech seismologist who's gotten me through every Southern California earthquake I can remember, say that waves weren't expected to be more than a couple of feet. If Lucy says it's going to be okay, I always put my faith in her!

    I too
have been paying very close attention to what's happening in the aftermath of Japan's earthquake. I called my sister who lives in WA on an island to see if she was ok. She told me some of the coastal people in OR were evacuated and in WA she had 3 foot waves and 60 mph winds. I guess AL just missed some bad weather. Hoping that all west coast sisters are safe.
