in Colorectal Cancer #1
We are doing it!! My friend Susan and I (both Stage III rectal cancer survivors) have the blessing and the backing from the American Cancer Society to start the first ever "Feet and Friends Fighting Colorectal Cancer" 8k competitive run and 5k fun run/walk on April 16 at Gallup Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Our dream is that this will be so successful that other ACS chapters will start a nationwide event. All proceeds will be directed solely towards colorectal cancer research and a cure. Our dream, and goal, is to CREATE MORE BIRTHDAYS!

    That is amazing!!! Good luck with your benefit!!! I walked in the "Get Your Rear In Gear," here in MN for the 1st time last year, it was sad yet I felt very lucky to be in it.

    its about time somebody stepped up thanks to you and your friend for the hard work.in my town its only the breast cancer that gets any help...Godbless...johnnybegood

    Great Idea
    It's great that they have many "Runs for Colon Cancer" Hey, that's an idea for a name... I was surprised and saddened though that the words "race for a cure" are being trademarked or some such thing and people who want to use those 4 words have run into legal problems from the originator of the first Race for a Cure.

    "Susan G. Komen For the Cure, the breast cancer charity, has warned several other charities to stay away from its trademarked phrase: "Race for the Cure." And watch out if you use the color pink."

    I read the story. It is really sad to see what a lot of these big "charities" have turned into. They forgot about the patients a long time ago. A few years ago, we became involved in a fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association. My husband is a diabetic and we were invited to a banquet at a very upscale home(with it's own tennis court) where they served no foods proper for a diabetic's diet. For the bicycle ride fundraiser(which we completed), you were not allowed to participate unless you presented a minimum amount for your donations. You would think a charity would be happy with any amount they received. That kind of turned me off for charity donations. Just my opinion, but I think way too much of the money goes to "administration" and not to researching the cure. However, I am grateful that these ladies are at least trying to get something started for colon cancer.
    Any cancer is a horrible experience and this will at least help to make people aware of other major types.
