My last AC chemo is thursday...question about Taxol
Taxol is next. 4 times every 3 weeks. I know I've asked about effects before but I can't recall what they were!!
Hair loss still?
Fatigue?
I'm soooooooooooooo ready not to have chemo anymore and just be done with all this crap! But I'm looking for some help on what to expect from the taxol...

I had 12 weekly Taxol - they were a lot worse than the 4 A/C. With A/C hair on head had all fallen out but only about 1/2 of lashes and brows. With Taxol, all the rest of hair everywhere 'left'. With A/C I was tired 2 days out of each 2 weeks, with Taxol I was completely and utterly exhausted all the time (well 1 day wouldn't be quite as bad), resting did not help, could not sleep. I did start feeling better a week after the last.0 -

I had 4 rounds of AC and I was sick the whole time. Then Taxol was alot eaiser just aching joints I have been finished with chemo since Sept and I still get very tired and body really aches and my feet are still numb. My Onc said it can take up to a year before my body could return to normal.0 -
I didn't have Taxol
I was given Cytoxan and Taxotere together, so I can't give you any specific tips. I'm guessing that the hair loss will continue, and as so many here have discovered, everyone's different, so even though a lot of ladies had bad side effects with AC, you didn't (Yay You!!!), so I'll send my best wishes and prayers that you also have an easy time with the Taxol.
At least you're looking at the finish line soon - 4 more to go after tomorrow!!

What to expect from Taxol
I had 4 rounds of A/C followed by 12 rounds of Taxotere. I did OK with the A/C but was fatigued and did lose my hair. For me, Taxotere was horrible. I had diarrhea and vomiting which lead to dehydration. I had to be given IV fluids several times. I also had watery eyes, damaged fingernails (ended up losing 9 of them), lack of desire to eat along with changes in my taste buds. I ended up losing about 45 pounds.
My last chemo was in August 2010. My hair is growing back and I look more like Halle Berry and Julie Andrews (hairwise at least)than Telly Savalas. My energy level is not completely normal but it is tremendously improved. My eyes continue to be extremely watery. 8 of my fingernails have grown back beautifully. I have gained back 10 pounds of the lost weight.
Everyone reacts differently to the taxane drugs. I had expected it to be easiier than it turned out to be. Hopefully you will not have a difficult time. Let's hope for the best.0 -

chemo was bad for me really bad but taxol was easier. no neulasta, no allegic reactions. i did develop a rash all over my face. The first 3 weeks I had a fever too. nobody ever figured out why. hate to say this but watch out forneuropathy. i did develop this. I think you are doing great so I am hopeful you will do great with taxol too.0 -
I Didn't Have Taxol
but know a couple of people who have. Both didn't lose any of their hair! I think everyone reacts differently. As far as other side effects, they both had severe fatigue and a little weakness, but wasn't too bad.

I had TAC, 6 treatments, so it's hard to pinpoint which SE was from which medication. I hope the taxol goes as smoothly for you as the AC. Please keep posting and let us know how you're doing.

For me, Taxol was the easier one for the stomach reactions which is why doctors tell you it's the easier one.
The only thing was it did give me bone and leg pain, but that can be managed with meds till you get finished.
Best of luck and don't be afraid to ask for pain meds IF it does.
I hope you are one of the lucky ones who does just fine.

Tomorrow is my third round of weekly Taxol and so far very little side effects - no nausea, no hair loss yet, mild constipation (manage with adding juice, fruit and this morning raisin bran!), mild muscle aches Days 4 and 5, and yes, there is fatigue. I go to bed at 9 pm and wake up at 6 am! And, sometimes, take a nap if I can fit it in my schedule.
I am able to work part time and go in Tues, Weds, Thurs. If I try to do too much (generally a problem/bad habit of mine) I get VERY exhausted...that happened yesterday when I came home at 6 pm completely wiped out. If I take it easy I have been feeling pretty good. I expected much worse especially in terms of stomach/nausea. I would have to say the main effect is fatigue. The fatigue reminds me a bit of the first trimester of pregnancy so I keep telling myself "this too shall pass!"
I'm doing 12 weeks of weekly Taxol followed by 3 months of bi-weekly or tri-weekly FEC. Funny how everyone's combos are a bit different and everyone's side effects are also different.

I found Taxol to be much easier than AC
I did four rounds of AC and then 12 weekly Taxols. I finished Oct. 7 - WOO HOO! My hair started coming back as did my tast buds. Towards the end my fingernails started to lift and were very painful. They also had a foul odor, but one of the oncology nurses told me to soak them in white vinegar twice a day for 5 minutes each - it really helped. I also broke out in a rash on my hands and arms. And at the very end my 2 pinky toe nails fell off!

Hello, my hair began coming out, after first treatment, so I had it shaved off. BUT, even with 3 more treatments, some thin hair strands are hanging on bravely! What what happen to these little guys, I wonder?
Also, my head became a raving rash of angry red blisters, itchy, almost like acne. So topicals didn't work, and finally I am on a antibiotic called minocycline. What really works is a creamy solution of baking soda spread all over my head. Dries white, but keeps my head from itching.
Has anyone else had this problem with head rash? Everything itches - caps, wigs, hats, but I do have several soft cotton baby kinds of caps that feel good.

Taxol easier except for "bone pain"
I had 4 rounds A/C and I'm just finishing my 3rd round of Taxol. I only have one left!!! I am finding Taxol to be easier...first 2 days I wonder if they did anything to me at all. But days 3 and 4 are harder 'cos of the bone pain and tiredness. I have a Neulasta shot the day after chemo (which also causes bone pain) so that might make the bone pain worse. I also notice that I get weepy on days 3 and 4. Possibly because I don't feel well. As far as hair, I lost mine after 2nd A/C but kept my lashes til the Taxol. Now they are almost gone. I bought false eyelashes and I'm trying them out this week. It's a pain (literally) but I'm feeling so much happier knowing I only have one of these left. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
