Hi !! NEW UPDATE ON SON

I spent the day at the clinic as this last round of FOLFOX hit me very hard. Everything that could happen seems to have happened. I survived it so there! They gave me iv fluids and platelets and told me to go home to bed. So before I do the bed part I wanted to say a quick hello and let everyone know I am doing ok. Miserable but ok. Ha!

My son had to have a 2nd tube placed yesterday in an attempt to keep from doing surgery. They are hoping that the 2nd tube will help get rid of the air pocket that has developed in the lung. He now has 2 tubes and 2 suctions going. UGH. So far we are still in wait and hope mode. I appreciate all the kind thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE ON SON: Argh! we are now fighting another bout of chicken pox. He has no immune system so he gets anything and everything any number of times and doesn't develop immunity. This is his 3rd cicken pox outbreak this year. He doesn't get shingles ... he gets actual chicken pox each time. The last one was responsible for the bout of his viral pneumonia about 5 months ago. We are currently treating him with antibiotics and now will have to add antivirals and hope that he doesn't develope a viral pnuemonia in his one functioning lung. Sheesh. I'm very concerned about him. While I was sicker from the chemo, I missed seeing him for a couple of days and yesterday was at the clinic all day. Today was the first I've seen him since last week and he looks so much worse that I am really starting to worry. His coloring is gray (not just pale) with dark red and purple splotches everywhere. I've never seen him with such bad coloring. His current sat rate without oxygen is 52. dang! Today he told me that he didn't think he was going to make it out of the hospital this time. We requested a consultation appointment with the doctor to sit down and review his chart when I am there to go over things and help interpret them for him. Since his stroke a couple of months ago, I have noticed that he is slower to process things and it really frustrates him. Thoughts and Prayers are appreciated.

Thanks to my semi-colon family for being here. You guys are the best!

HUGS

Good to hear from you, Lori. Sorry you're having such a lousy time w/ the chemo and have the worries of your son on top of it all. I will continue praying for you both.
Hope you get rest tonight and that the steroids don't keep you up in the middle of the night. You WILL get through this-

Hugs and prayers,
Lisa

Both you and your son are in my thoughts and prayers. Sorry the chemo is hitting you so hard, but the more you get the harder it is on your system. Hoping that this new tube for your son works. He has been through so much recently. A speedy recovery to both of you. Thanks for the update, it's good to know you are still here even though you don't feel well:(

Awwwww Lori, I'm so sorry to hear this last session is the one you will probably remember and it was the worst one :/ I know it's not much consolation at the moment until you are feeling better but the good news is this was your LAST round of FOLFOX!! Yayayayaya! No more of that nasty, nasty Oxy!!! It is the absolute worse and every round of it it gets that much harder to take and that much worse in side affects. But you did it, girl!! You finished them all!!

I missed the posts of what has happened to your son that he is in the hospital... but I'm really sorry that you have this worry on top of your own chemo woes. Hopefully you will be feeling much better in the next day or so and you can go see your son and find out that he is doing much better because of this second tube. It will all work out just fine, it's just too bad that it has had to happen in the first place :)

Glad to see that you could pop in for a couple of seconds to let us know. Now rest up!

Cheryl

dear lori,
you are being tested and passing with flying colours. From my perspective you are a great example of the best of our human spirit. You mind is on your mum not your self.

please trust you gut feeling, I hear the worry behind your words so act urgently with the doctors. If you remember my aunty Val went from planning her release home in the morning being told she had 3 months to live and then passing away completely unexpectedly over just 2 hours from her advanced lung cancer.

All in the same day.

My expect the unexpected here means being ready to help. Maybe you can get a nice recliner chair in your sons room and have a nap. Make sure you tell show and tell me you love him and hold his hand.

love and prayers,
Pete

Lori, I am so sorry your Son is having a hard time with all this! If you don't see me here much, its because of chemo #3. I will try to get hold of you by phone today. You and your Son have my love, hugs, and prayers.

Talk to you later, Gail

Lori,

I am praying for your son. I am so sorry that he has had to suffer like this. And, in the midst of what you are going through I know it must just seem like too frick'n much. I will hold you in my prayers.
When our daughter gets her IVIG today I will think of you and your son. I will hold you in prayer and send my love over the ocean to you.

Aloha,
Kathleen

All the warm thoughts and prayers are so greatly appreciated. I'm taking the rest of today at home to rest up for a long day at the doctors offices tomorrow, maybe do some laundry and just putz around the house. I was able to schedule things so that I have a break at lunch time to spend with my son between docs tomorrow. Unfortunately his hospital is on the other side of town so I was lucky to get the break between appointments. He is receiving his IVIG this afternoon and he gets premeds (benadryl etc) iv with it so he's going to be pretty much out of it for the rest of the day. Sometimes you just have to remind yourself that life doesn't stop just because you have cancer and don't feel well. Right now my son is feeling worse than I am so I'm really doing my best to take the breaks when I can to stay as healthy as possible so I can keep up with what he needs.

Again Thank you all .... HUGS!!!!!

Awww, Lori... I'm so sorry to hear that you and your son are having to go through this. I did not know why your son was in the hospital, but putting the update and bits and pieces I've gleaned, is it any wonder you are under stress??

As for your latest treatment hitting you so hard... I'm sorry, I read the first sentence wrong and thought you said this "last round of FOLFOX" and understood that to be this was your last round. I have since been corrected ;) FOLFOX is not the most fun little adventure, by any stretch.... and even when we remind ourselves that it IS fighting our battle and is a great weapon to have in our arsenal, that doesn't make the side affects any more fun to go through. Add to that, the stress of worrying about your son, chances are the side affects are even worse for you than for someone who doesn't have that added stress.

I know this probably isn't going to be of too much comfort, but know in your heart that your son is in good hands. Meanwhile, you do have to look after yourself and try (I know, impossible as it is) to destress yourself. Your immune system is taking a heck of a beating as well, so you want to be doubly careful that the things your son is exposed to and his immune system can't fight off... you are possibly being exposed too. I just want you to know we all are thinking of you and if we could help we would... but I guess all we can really do is send positive thoughts and energy to both you and your son, and remind you that someone has to take care of you as well.

Hugggggs,

Cheryl
