This was suPposed to be the best Xmas ever and it ended up. Being the worst. I am going home renting movies and drinking beer. I will not be answering the phone and pretending that my family doesn't exist.

pepe it is 6 degrees here so all the mountains of snow are melting. The great ice jams on our roof came tumbling down at night shaking the house....

we are off to a friend's house for early dinner....she is just a block away so we can trudge through melting snow and rain.....hahah

no coat for us tonight....supposed to get up to 10 degrees C

Arguments! Exposure to my deadbeat brother. Mom taking up for him. I have spent over 6 thousand dollars to help my mom with her recovery since May of this year (plane tickets, house repairs, house cleaners, washer and dryer), but she was a b*tch to me the whole tie I was there. I am so stressed out such that I lost weight during the holiday. In order to be healthy, I must live life as a motherless child right now. I stopped talking to my mother on Tuesday in order to avoid stress and today my dad tells me that he doesn't like the way I am treating my mom in not speaking to her.AAAARGGGGH I spent all of the money I had saved to go to greece to help my parents and I am the bAtch. My bRother didn't even bring them a Xmas gift and has never come down to help! Right now, I envy the life of Jane Eyre. I can no longer trust or depend on my family. This is the gift given to me this Christmas.

Ketziah, I am so sorry you are having such family difficulties! I went through so many myself. I didn't speak to my brother for 3 1/2 years. It hurt me so bad when I knew he knew I had cancer and he didn't care enough to check on me. And he is a PA. I was over our dispute, I had to let it go in order to move on. But I know how he is and can't let things go so easily. I decided to wait it out and if he ever decided to pick up our relationship again, I was ready. Well, the day before Thanksgiving I received a card from him in the mail. (sad thing is, he only lives about 3 miles from me). It was a very nice card with a nice handwritten note. ............I'm sorry, don't mean to ramble and this may not make you feel any better. Just know that you are not alone in the family squabble dept. and please for your own health, take care of you first right now and let the other things fall into place. You can't make things happen. Whatever is going to happen will all on it's own, you can't force it. I have tried to do that with many things. It just doesn't work. Take a few steps back, take some time, and just breathe. I have found that in some cases, time is my friend. You can still be nice to your Mom and call, write, etc. if you chose, in fact wishing her a Happy New Year might make you feel somewhat better knowing you did this.

Take care my dear, Gail

I have the TV and my kids. Sure would be nice to have someone special to share the moment of 2011 with. Yes, sorry I'm still down about the relationship stuff. I will get over it and cheer up I'm sure. .....Ok I heard something yesterday and thought of myself and had an aha moment. And it's making me smile right now, I feel kind of like laughing. Here goes, it said "on the New Year you need to give a kiss to someone with a kind heart for good things to happen". So I immediately thought, "oh my gosh! I've been kissing the wrong person." (I had already decided my old BF had a mean heart to treat me the way he did). So maybe this will show to be true by not kissing a meanhearted person.....hmmmm. Superstitious anyone?

We are staying home and having a special dinner. We will probably watch the ball come down, but will be in bed watching TV. The grandkids might come over but not sure. Came down with a cold yesterday and although feeling ok, don't want them to catch it. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year. God Bless!

Happy New Year to you Pepe, and everyone else too!!
My husband, kids, and husband's sister are getting up at 3 a.m. to drive up to Pasadena, CA to see the Rose Parade. Do they ever show the Rose Parade on New Year's in Spain, Pepe? I went last year with the family, but am skipping it this time. It's kind of a wild and crazy, but fun scene. Last year we left the house at 4 a.m, got there close to 6:30 and just walked in. No sleeping on the sidewalks for us, like so many other people did!
But since everyone else here is getting up so early to go to the parade, I think they are going to try to go to bed early- so no big midnight celebration in our house this year. My kids have turned into night owls over the Christmas break from school, so I don't know how early they'll be able to go to sleep- we've been watching movies until 2 a.m. the past couple nights, so they may onlyget an hour or two in of sleep.

Blessings ahead in 2011, Everyone!!

We are staying home, having a nice dinner + watching a movie. Our oldest daughter is having a bunch of friends over to celebrate. She is busy tidying our family room right now.

Pepe, last night I was up late after company left + I almost started this thread (it was after midnight so it was Friday). I decided it would not have the same meaning if it din't come from you! I hope you are ready to welcome 2011 in style! I can't wait to hear about the 12 grapes; is it 1 for each month?

HAPPY NEW YEAR PEPE!! :-) We just got home after spending the day with Rick's kids and parents. His Mom made a nice turkey dinner and his son opened his Christmas presents today since he was sick on Christmas and couldn't join us. A very nice day overall. Now we're just going to watch the New Year's happenings in Boston while cuddled up on the couch. It's warm here this year (47 deg.) so the poor ice sculptures in Boston Common are melting - drip, drip, drip. Oh well, they still look pretty. :-) Hope that you're having a good night! Happy New Year everyone! Cynthia

Tradition in Spain is to follow the new year entrance in TV with the Clock of " Puerta del Sol" in Madrid , Puerta del sol is a big square with a very old clock so when it sounds the 12 peals of the bell you have to eat a grape in every peal, it means good luck! Thousands of people gather there in fun dressing ( something similar to Time square ). Fun and old tradition!Every body does it!.

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou from Hawaii! Today was our daughter's 14th birthday and we celebrated in the afternoon. It was such a great celebration. She has autism and can be quite overwhelmed. Today she had a blast with a few friends and family. I am so happy she had a great day!!
Tonight we will have her inside with the air conditioner on (it's 80 deg F) so she can't hear the fireworks. She gets a bit scared. We will eat some Ahi (fresh Tuna) and have a good dinner. Then, Dick and I will take turns at a neighbors' party. It's too hard finding a sitter for daughter on New Years. Both of us will be home at midnight. :) Also, we'll make sure the 16 year old is not driving and does not get in any car tonight. There is a bonfire on the beach for the teens so they will be walking.
Love, peace and improving health to all of you. You are a blessing in my life.

Aloha,
Kathleen

Bill and I have long-standing tradition of staying home and celebrating. We have special snacks, watch the shows on tv, and drink a little wine. A kiss at midnight, and we're good to go for another year. *smiles*
