battle lost

I lost my "soul mate" on October 25th when he lost his battle just after 4 months of being diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer.
He had told us he wanted to contact Hospice and stop the chemo treatments and we had an appointment set up with them. But the good Lord decided his work on earth was completed and called him home the night before.
I want to thank everyone on this site for all of the encouragement and helpful topics during this journey.
The holidays have been very difficult, but with the help of family and friends, it has been easier. I know in my heart that he is no longer suffering and cancer free and that alone helps me face each day.
I will continue to pray for each and everyone on this site as their journey continues.

    Hello,

    I know this must be a particularly difficult time of the year for you as each holiday reminds you of things you both did together and enjoyed. But you still have him in your heart and he is now in a place where there is no more pain and suffering.

    I pray that God wraps you in his loving arms and brings you peace during this difficult time.

    I am so sorry to hear your news and even though they are empty words they are heartfelt. I will keep you in my prayers as you begin to try and find a way without your dear husband.

    I am so sorry for your loss. I too lost my husband and best friend on November 14th. He was diagnosed with Stage IV esophageal cancer last November 30th. God was good and granted him almost another year with us, but it was quite the painful battle. He took radiation and chemo over the course of 9-10 months before finally losing the battle. It is definitely a "beast", this disease, and I pray for you and your family as you deal with your loss.

    These past few weeks I'm sure have been very difficult for you. I'm glad you found some comfort in being around your family.

    I will be praying for you as well in the days ahead.

    I'm so sorry for your loss. Your letter made me think of my sister in law and her struggle to beat her cancer. To keep this short, she had squamous cell carcinoma that started on her tongue and the doctors told us it was one of the most agressive of carcinomas. After 8 months of fighting the tumors had grown in her neck, her jaw, and her face. Her facial features were quite distorted by the end. I think this hurt her more than the cancer itself.

    Anyway, a week or two after she passed I had a dream. We were sitting at the table in her dining room having a cup of coffee. She sat down and smiled that beautiful smile I remembered was always on her face and she said Look Rob, no more cancer, and no more tumors, I am so happy.

    It is so hard to lose someone we love, yet when it is because of this terrible disease, then knowing they are no longer suffering and are happy can give our hearts some peace. I truely believe our loss is temporary, and they suffer no more.
