is now bagless!! Uneventful sx today for reversal and hernia repair. Doc says he can go home tomorrow as long as he feels up to it and can take in some liquid. I thought you had to poop before they would let you go. He is in much pain (nurse says HIT THE BUTTON), and still very sleepy.

Any tips on a diet when he gets home??? I am making homemade soups, got ice cream in freezer, fresh fruit, protein drinks, green tea...

Still hadn't heard results from scan Thurs..

    with no major problems! hope he can enjoy of a Christmas eve at home!
    Hope Scan results bring us excellent news, I pray for that!

    wow home without pooping?? surgeons must be different on this? Mine wouldn't let me and it was a long week.

    Mine was a closed end colostomy? maybe his was different? I had an NG tube in for 24 hours, then gradually allowed me liquids, then more liquids, time passes! I finally got to go to semi liquid, which meant soups and milk shakes. Recovery time was exactly like the resection surgery. Once that colon is manipulated, it really shuts down.

    So very glad to hear that the surgery went well.

    Yea, they tell you to "push the button", but what they don't tell you is that it doesn't disspense meds on every push. If like the one I had, it does keep track, and if within the orders left by doc, the nurse can up the dosage or the timing based on how many times you push.

    Sounds like you have got lots of good stuff to get him started in the food department at home.

    Good job Robert
    on getting rid of the bag. Angela, just take it easy for the first few days in the amount of food at one time. I'd do a BRAT diet first week just to ease into things and then start with foods sort of one at a time. Watch for how his body reacts to different foods. He might find he is a little lactose intolerant at first so milk products may have to be introduced a little at a time. Everyone is different though. Wishing you guys the very best with his coming home experience.
