The brain drugs have me in a very mellow mood this morning and this came to my mind.

This is why I always say Attitude 3 times.

This battle with cancer is a mind – body – spirit experience. Below is why I think a crazy old coot like me can and will beat this crap.

Mind

Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Man is what he thinks about all day long”.

If we think negative thoughts, we will get the results we expect.

It works the same with positive thoughts, but I think I get a placebo effect attached to it with a good attitude.

Body

If we sit/lay on our **** because we have had the hell beat out of us from the drugs and radiation and such, I think the body gives up if we give up on it. If we push the body a little it does respond and rebuild itself. Therefore, get off your ****. Do something, anything, but get moving. Be productive and feel good about yourself.

Spirit

From the caveman on there has been a belief in something bigger then us. No matter what name or description you might want to attach to it. For me it is my higher power, God, as I know him. My God has a hell of a sense of humor. Sometimes he just hides it in my problems for me to find. We communicate when I am in my woods.

Thanks to all of your well wishes on getting this damn bag the hell off my belly.

This and you guys works for me.

Kerry

    Agree
Kerry I must say that I agree with you that having a strong mind, body and spirit will help us all to beat back this cancer. I remember when I was first diagnosed the doctor told me I had 4 key things in my favor that would be key in beating cancer. Great Attitude, Overall Good Health other than the cancer, support from family and friends, and a strong belief in God and for me that is the most important one but for others it could be any of the things listed above. I agree that if we allow our minds to stay down and get depressed then it will lead to negative effects on our health. I also agree that we must get up off the couch and do something, anything even if it's cleaning up the house or walking around the block. Anything to let the body know that WE are still in charge not the cancer. Let the body and mind know hey there we are in this together and that together we are going to beat this cancer. Stage 4 is NOTHING but a number so long as you look at it that way and don't claim that it's going to kill us. Many people around the world beat stage 4 every single day and so why can't anyone of us on this site be one of the people that beat this cancer even at stage 4. I hope you have a great day and hope your mind clears up although sometimes a mellow mood is not a bad thing.....

    Works for me.....
Even tho I was 'only' stage III

....and then 'only' stage II breast cancer....

Thanks, Kerry (you know, the crazy old coot was said with GREAT affection! I hope I didn't offend you...not my intention...I call my mom the 'crazy old woman').

where getting outside and feeling productive does a lot for the spirit.

"A real medicine can only exist when it penetrates into a knowledge which embraces the human being in respect to body, soul and spirit."

    Agreed!
    Kerry,

You are right on about getting up off the rear and doing something and keeping the attitude up! There are definitely those days where I have to give in and have a good long nap, but most days I try to keep going, doing errands, doing things around the house and for my family. I know the body responds to activity & seems to shut down the more sedentary a body is. Helping others and downplaying your own issues for awhile I think is a good way to get your mind off your own problems and feel good about helping others. In fact, I've kind of put my own interests last & so now I'm thinking of taking up painting. I don't now that I'd be any good, but I have a desire to do it anyway. Think I'll look into seeing if my community center offers any kind of watercolor or painting class.
My belief in Jesus is definitely what I believe keeps me strong and going all the more and seeing "the big picture" in my life. But as you said, people need something- I'd love it if everyone believed the way I do because I believe it's the way, BUT I do know that regardless of what someone specifically believes or practices, it's scientifically documented that patients who have a belief in some kind of faith or higher power truly seem to have a better outlook on life and on being able to handle their illness, in general. I don't know that it neccesarily correlates to whether they live longer or die from their illness, but it does correlate strongly to the quality of life and their mental and emotional well being.

Have a good day in your mellowness, Kerry!

    Thanks for sharing Kerry
Totally agree this is a "whole" experience, not just a physical challenge.

    Get off your butt

    Stay as positive as possible

Believe in something ... anything that helps you through

You are right, it takes all three to get us through life.

Any idea how long you will be off here while you recover from getting the reconnect?

Safe travels and may your surgeon have hands that do their best work ever!

    Kerry,

You really are in danger of becoming a very mellow dude.

Don't panic when I say this, "Love you!"
