Has anyone known of first line chemo treatment ( carboplatin and etopiside ) not showing any improvement ? This was shown on scan after 2 rounds. Then he was switched to carboplatin and irinotecan for two treatments.Went to radiation and resuming chemo later.
Doctor said it's not the best sign when first line doesn't shrink tumor or tumors.
He's now had 22 radiation reatments and was suppose to resume carboplatin/irinotecan but, Doc gave him week break because he was still so fatigued from radiation. Having trouble eating so, just drinking all the Ensure, Boost etc with added "anything" for extra calories. Has lost a lot of muscle mass.

    Carboplatin & Etoposide
Or Cisplatin and Etoposide , both very common first line chemo combos, but they don't always work for everyone, including me. If the second line doesn't seem to be doing much, you might ask the doc about trying one of the targeted drugs, or a clinical trial (I'm thinking of Crizotinib in particular, which seems to be pretty successful).

If your husband having trouble eating because of pain, there is a "magic mouthwash" that his doc can prescribe that contains a numbing agent ; I didn't care much for it, but it works for a lot of others :)

Hope all goes well for your husband and for you,

    magic mouthwash
When I was being treated with cisplatin and alimta, my doc prescribed the "magic mouthwash" for me as my entire mouth was like a sore tastebud! After using it two or three times, it was like "magic", the soreness went away. Now I didn't say it tasted good but it did work extremely well. It's absolutely amazing how far they have come with treatments and remedies for the side effects of treatments for cancer. And for that I believe we need to thank all those victims and survivors that have given back by participating in clinical trials for the advancement of cancer research. Again, thank you! Bill
