I didn't think I would be posting again until after my surgery on Monday but guess what I can't sleep what a shock. I have a reoccurrence upper desending colon this time. Last time I was stage 3 with a "large tumor" now I have a "medium tumor". I tried to get some medical type to tell me what stage this one is but got nothing from the gastro doc or surgeon. All I could get is medium tumor under 2cm. The web doesn't say much about tumor size so what size is small-medium-large? I know it is staging that is important but how do they decide what scale makes it medium? They usually talk fruit size for us like my first one was the size of a plum or my neighbors was the size of a grapefruit. Nice context for us simple types but unnecessary I passed math. Frustrating they didn't fruit size my cancer this time. Anyway does anyone know the point at which a small tumor becomes a medium or large tumor? On another note my doc says that the pet scan has trouble finding low grade (slow growing) cancer. He says it doesn't pick up the sugar being rapidly used when low grade. I said what? It cost over $7000 dollars and it did not find my cancer because it was growing too slowly? I was told the CT/Pet scan is definitive but apparently not for me. So my cancer got an extra four months to "grow" until the colonoscopy. I know I'm rambling but mmy wife is asleep and my beagle just shakes her head and stares condesendingly at me. Well off to pre-surgery prep what fun. Post you later

I believe if it's still in
I believe if it's still in the colon and lymph nodes it is still Stage Three My tumor was the size of a golf ball and believe that was big.

I am sure you will be fine! And they will know tomorrow how far, if any, it has extended.
Here's to still in the colon!

I will be thinking of you and praying for you in my own way!!

    Medium better than Large
I have no idea about the sizing of tumors, but wanted to wish you well with your surgery on Monday and a speedy recovery.

I was under the impression that the staging was dependent on whether or not the tumor had breached the wall of the organ or wheter or not there were distant mets. Guess it all depends on which staging scale is used.

Regardless of stage, you at least have a fairly early caputre if it is medium. Hoping that it is well contained. Unfortunately medical science is not all that precise with cancer. For the costs associated with detection, surgery and treatments you would think by now we could get a guarantee, but no such luck.

Lots of well wishes coming your way and we will be anxiously awaiting your return to the board.
