edited March 2014 in Esophageal Cancer #1
I am a caregiver for my brother who has esophageal cancer, after 6weeks of radiation and 3 months of chemo the cancer has spread to lymph nodes. He was referred to the Mayo in Minn. with the hopes of surgery. This ordeal has started in Feb. and in July we were sent home with pallative care info. He did have a stent put in while at the Mayo and currently has a feeding tube. He is having a tough time with nausea and vomiting all day long. We have all the meds, but nothing seems to work. I just want him to be comfortable, does anyone have suggestions

So sorry to hear of your difficult journey. Did they dismiss you with information for hospice or home health care? Is he eligible for VA services? There are many others on this site who have a lot of information, and I'm sure they'll be checking in with some good words. It does seem that you need some additional support. It is difficult to manage all the meds and ease the pain for the patient. I feel it is a juggling act because what works one day, doesn't the next. You all are in my prayers.

    to : need help
I'm so sorry that your in this situation, and my prayers are going to include you. My 29 year old son has stage 4 EC and has undergone all that you're describing. He's currently still having chemo every 3 weeks and has fought nausea from the beginning. He says it helps to not lie down for at least 2 hours after eating. It's certainly worth a try.

Stay on this board and you'll find all the love, caring, and support you could ask for. This is a long, scary journey and we need all the info we can get to fight this disease.

Best of luck to all of you,
    Martha
