Has anyone had experience in being denied short term disability while trying to re-educate the colon after having had the rectum removed?

    Disabilities....
Each State handles unemployment disabilities differently.

The following web site seemed to have the most information regarding
    "short-term" unemployment disability:

    Unemployment disability
(The topic is incidental; the information is generic)

    If that's any help...(?)

It is very common to be denied for Social Security. To be granted benefits do not give up. Get a lawyer who deals with this. Documentation is the key. The more documentation you have and statements from your Doctors, the better chance you have of winning your case. This process is not a short one,it can go on for a couple of years. A lawyer can help you to get a hearing in front of a judge. Your condition must have went on over one year and prevent you from doing your work. Social security has guide lines they go by.

    Wow
Wow Graci, you sure do hate lawyers. Many disailities are turned down because of insufficient documentation and improper filing. If you don't know how to file, it is best to seek help. The local social security office can and will assist in this regard, you just need to call and set up an appointment. Most Stage IV's are automatic approval. Again, you need to present proper documentation of the disability. This informtion should be available on the government web site.

The people working for social security cannot physically see the person, thus the need for proper documentation and filing.

I have worked for my attorney for 25 years and I can assure you, not all lawyers are greedy out to get your $$$. Although we do not practice social security law in our office, in other fields of law, documentation is essential, there needs to be a paper trail.

Wishing you success in your application.

    Best Regards - Tina

    Disability Denial
Tina - I was speaking of STD from the employer.

The insurance co. keeps asking for lab tests and CT scans/x-rays, etc. I've tried to explain that the problem is I spend the entire day 'on the bowl' [I'm at 7 weeks post ieleostomy take down]. By entire day I mean still going 12 - 20 times per day. Was really hoping to be further along at this point.

I asked the company [insurance] if they'd like me to film myself and the result each time I go in......that just drew dead silence.

They need documentation. Is there any way you can get the documentation to them? If not, if you sign an authorization it will allow them to get the documents from the doctor they need. It is usually called something like "Authorization for Release of Medical Records". We routinely have people sign this type of thing so we can obtain medical, employment ss records, stuff like that. In fact, we often send the authorization to a records copy service and they do all the work and send the records to us. Tell them to send you an authorization to sign and they can then obtain the records they need. In my opinion, only, they are stalling, if they want the records, they can get all they need with this type of authorization.

Good luck with this - Tina
