Heard of adeno squamous carcinoma?

Does anyone have any knowledge of adeno squamous carcinoma? From what little I have found on the internet, it appears to be a combination of adenocarcinoma cells and squamous cells in the same tumor. The ONC seemed confused by the path report, indicating that the pathologist wasn't sure of which cell it actually was...?? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    This is my first time
    This is my first time "chatting" and just joined this site tonight. I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of unknown primary in October 2009; I am 31. My husband and I have done lots of research so I will dig through it and pass it on to you. In the meantime, my oncologist referred me to "the guru of adenocarcinoma", Dr. Anthony Greco at Tennessee Oncology, associated with Vanderbilt. We had a consult with his group for involvement in a clinical trial but it was suggested that we try a different kind of chemo before doing the clinical trial. I will check with my husband and get back to you with some more information on adenocarcinoma. The research we found had sections on the various kinds of cancers of unknown primaries and adenocarcinomas. Feel free to email me at kmcantrell55@gmail.com if you would like.     I went back to see where we originally researched adenocarcinoma and we probably didn't find any more "general" information than you did. My husband said that he looked through info from the Mayo Clinic, Cancer.gov, and Cancer Society, I believe. Hope that you are able to find the information you are looking for and will be praying for you and your family!

    In my opinion, the lab should be re-checking or re-doing their tests - if your oncologist was confused, and the pathologist is unsure, how can they direct you through the right treatment?

    some info that might help
    I have not actually read a lot on adenocarcinoma of unknown primary until recently. I actually waited 6 months after my diagnosis to read much of the information that I have. I am now receiving Alimta as my second line of treatment and go tomorrow for my 3rd dose. My husband has lots of info printed out and I just read through it all. One article discussed squamous, through WebMD emedicine at http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/280505
    This article says it was updated March 2009 so it is more recent than some of the other info I have seen. Also, this article discussed the types of pathologist necessary to deal with cancers of unknown primary so it might be helpful for you from that aspect as well.
