Double Whammy

Hello everyone-
I've just joined. The name I selected "Double Whammy" is because I was diagnosed with both breast and endometrial cancers in late April 2010. Both were the result of routine mammography and Pap smear - and this is why we get them. To date I've had a lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy (May 11). The breast cancer is Stage I invasive ductal carcinoma, grade 2, estrogen positive, progesterone negative, HER2 negative, Oncotype DX 31. Treatment (chemotherapy, radiation and aromatase therapy) won't begin until approximately 2 weeks after my hysterectomy (July 1). We hope the hysterectomy will be all that is needed for the endometrial cancer.
So, here I am. Your experiences and feedback amongst each other tells me this is a good place to find support and encouragement.

Welcome to this site. Sorry you have to be here but we are all fighting the same battle. You will find lots of good information, great support and wonderful words of encouragement as I have learned first hand. We are all here for each other and just knowing that is a wonderful thing.

This is a good place and wonder people who is here to help or just listen. I will pray that your hysterectomy is only thing you need. I know it hard but try to have a positive attitude and good support group around. This will also help you get through this journey.

Yes - your "name" is, unfortunately, quite appropriate. Glad you found us, though sorry - twice! - for the reason. And, yes - we're all here to support and encourage each other.
My own experience was lumpectomy, chemo, rads - completed 6+ years ago. Still taking oral meds.
You've already made much progress along your journey. I'll be hoping for the best possible outcome from your upcoming surgery.

Welcome. I am going through chemo for a second time, i was just diagnosed with a reoccurence. You will find a lot of information here, just ask your questions. I am just glad i have this board while i go through chemo again. Take care0 -

I too was a lurker for about 3 months. I don't post alot, but come almost everyday for inspiration. Ur startingon ur road, and I'm almost to the end. Celebrated one yr yesterday. Had surgery, mastecetomy, chemo and rads.
Alot of times during that year, would have a question or thought. Would come here and someone would have already posted it for me. The answers and concerns were here for me always. So, I ever felt weird or different for having these thoughts. I feel "normal" here.
I'm sorry that this board of cancer survivors has to be here, but soo very happy it's here for us. People here "get it". Hard for the outsiders to get it. Be yourself here. No stupid questions or having to put on a brave face.
I had stage 3 IDC, ER and PR pos., HER2 and 18/20 lymph nodes postive. Matchs my personalility. lol Very positive. Been there done that, so not going to do it again. I hope, I hope. Once again welcome to the boards. Katz0 -

Sorry you are having to go through this journey but glad you found this discussion board. We here are all in various stages of the journey and waging war on the invader. We are strong, determined and there is lots of love and support to be found here. Ask any question. There are no stupid questions. It is likely, whatever your question or feeling, someone here has thought it or is thinking that thought. We are in this together sister in PInk.

Welcome, you're among friends
Don't worry, we'll get you through this. We've all been through the ringer and come out just fine. I'm a 14 year survivor and healthy as an ox. There are no small or dumb questions to ask us. I had a great support group at work. We met once a week in a conference at our office. We laughed, cracked raunchy jokes about our mastectomies and generally the best time. It was a great relief that my friends were there to help me through my surgery and the 6 months of chemo.0 -

Welcome to the best place for info, support and encouragement! Sorry you need it but you will be glad you found it! I was dx with IDC stage1 grade1 EST pos. PRO pos HER - I had a lump. in March and have 1 more chemo trt. (of 4) left. I will do rads then meds. I pray that your hyst. is all you need for your other cancer. I have done fine through my trt. no sickness just tiredness. Wishing you the best in all the coming treatments and your surgery. God Bless

Hi Katz: Your story sounds like mine. In Dec. '09 had lumpectomy, axillary node disection, re-excision to get clean margins. Stage III IDC, ER and PR positive, but HER2 neg. with 10/23 lymph nodes positive. It sounds so, so, great to hear you've just celebrated your one year anniversary--congratulations! Breast cancer sucks in any form, but I rarely see any posts that seem as bleak as mine (as I said though--they're all bleak and suck!).
It gives me much hope to hear from people like you. I'm just starting radiation this week. Still sore, swollen and numb. Hoping radiation goes well.

Welcome to the board - I agree with everyone else - this is the best site out there. I looked at several before I found this one and was just amazed at the connection everyone has and the concern for each other. It is great that you are through your first surgery and we will all be here for your hysterectomy and sending you positive thoughts and prayers that it will be all you need!

Also somewhat double whammy
I had ovarian cancer in 2007 with 6 rounds of chemo the 9 yards and still trying to recover from the side effects of chemo...but in 3rd yr. remission.
Now I'm facing bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction due 2 BRCA 1 positive, my mother also had Breast Cancer she lost her battle on 2009. I advised 2 take BRCA test. Due 2 being positive and with my prior history of Ovarian & my mother's bc I'm having to go through all of this again.
BUT REST ASSURED - Logging In to this site will be much help and encouragement to you as I starting see for myself.
The doctors tell you all the techincal aspects of it, not the emotional and other physical aspects that you will or may not experience...only one who has walked in our shoes know.
If you have questions, no matter how dumb you may think it is..no matter...were all going through this one way or the other what may be your concerns will also be someone elses'
