I have been on Tomoxifin for 6 months now due to high risk and precancer breast tumor being removed. I have experienced daily hot flashes which I have been able to control moslty with Flaxseed oil. My husband and I had a wonderful sex life pre tomoxifin but I now have absolutely no drive (I never thought this would happen!) I still satisfy my husbands needs it's just not fun for me anymore. I thought I could live with this for 5 years but now sex has become very painful my Dr has me on something that is suppose to help but it doesn't. Is anyone else experiencing very painful sex?

    What makes it painful
I am going on it soon so want to know what to expect. What makes it painful?...dryness...I am guessing?

    Astroglide....or another product...
There are products on TV ads, can't remember who the company is, that is even a 2-pack...one for the male, one for the female.

Sometimes getting back into the saddle is a bit tough. I just posted on my 'other' cancer (colorectal) board...FINALLY I have my drive back, no more pain (the radiation for my rectal cancer went straight thru my uterus...it HURT during penetration)! I am into my 5th and final year of Tamoxifen.

About a year ago, with no enjoyment during sex, I just made up my mind that this was not going to be the way it would be for the rest of my life. So, I had a frank talk with my beau. I told him I needed to 'run the show', everything from being on top to motion and depth. After using Astroglide for a time, I started making my own stuff again. I must admit, it was easier at the beginning to have my beau pleasure me first...things relaxed, and penetration was easier.

It DOES take some work. And a bit of patience. And a strong desire to make it work! I always was a willing participant before cancer, why not now?????

And even MORE cool...because I had a total hysterectomy as part of the rectal cancer J-pouch surgery...I have no danger of getting pregnant!!! WHAT could be BETTER???? ROFL!!!

Ive never heard of this is it just a lubricant or a prescrition drug? I have seen the his and her fun stuff at the stores and thought about tryin them to get thing back on track.
But you dont go for the whole 5 years like this....i mean you adventually get back to normal in a few years while on tamoxifen...cuz if your going on your 5th year of it and it sounds like your getting back to normal...right? If so thats great to hear!!!

    Yes I have experienced this.
Yes I have experienced this. I tried replens, that didn't do much. I tried a prescription for premarin cream. That really helped a lot. After a while though, I stopped using it, and have discovered that if I deal with the pain and "deal" with it, then it becomes less painful.

Yeah, see, it wasn't the Tami....
It was the chemo/rads for the rectal. Then the hyster and the J-pouch surgery for the rectal (which is a VERY interesting surgery...they re-did my entire plumbing!). Just this alone took about a year to get comfortable.

6 months after the rectal I started treatment for the breast cancer with a lumpectomy. 2 weeks after that hospital stay, I developed a full bowel obstruction...had more. By then, my beau felt so sorry for me that he didn't even try to get back to normal.

After I started tami, my beau developed heart trouble...no, not from the tami...lol! So, it was more a lost opportunity than anything...we both were the 'walking wounded'...sex was not a big thought....

But, yeah, I had most of my trouble from the surgeries, hyster and rads...the dryness was the only result from the Tamoxifen that I could see...and that was solvable...KY jelly is the maker of the couple stuff.....

Now, we are both in a healthy spot at the same time. We joke that we should be invited to every party...between his heart disease and my cancer (the top 2 major life-threatening situations), we reduce the odds for everyone else!!!

    Tamoxifen side effects
Hey, Ellee. I went so dry and was incredibly itchy after 2 weeks on Tamoxifen. For 3 days I thought I would go out of my mind! Then, poof, it vanished. I don't know if my body adjusted or what. I am wet enough to have non-painful intercourse. But here's something: I got wicked bad hot flashes, worse than the ones I've had since I went through natural menopause 11 years ago at age 47. So after 2 months on Tamoxifen I spoke to my gyn and she put me on Effexor. Not only has it reduced my hot flashes to just 5 or 6 in 24 hours, it gave me back my libido. Not something anyone said anything about. It couldn't be coincidence. My husband is thrilled and so am I! We just celebrated our 34th anniversary and we feel like twenty-somethings again.

So, I don't know if Effexor is for you, but it sure counteracted some of the side effects of Tamoxifen for me.

I have been on Tamoxofin for
I have been on Tamoxofin for almost 4 years now. I think that no labido comes from no estrogen in our bodies. At first I was having no orgasims' anymore, but now it is better. Not great like it used to be but better. I to am on Effexor for hot flashes but still have at least 10-15 daily. I am not so dry now. Oral sex has helped with moisture. Sex is definatly not what it used to be, but when you love each other and want to please each other it does get better.

    Astroglide is a lubricant
Astroglide is a lubricant that you can get at just about any store...I may be new on here & have no experience with the drugs and side effects you're talking about but I do know about Astroglide! A few years back I threw a bridal shower for a younger co-worker, and both she and her husband were waiting until marriage to have sex. Along with the pretty bridal lingerie and household knick-knacks I got her, I also threw in a bottle of Astroglide as well-they both were sure to thank me when they got back from the honeymoon!

    available in most drugstores
The Astroglide was suggested by my GYN for the vaginal dryness when I went through menopause several years ago. It does not require a prescription, it is over the counter. Two years ago, I mistakenly packed it in my carry- on luggage on our flight to our Florida vacation. The tube is purple and quite large. Airport security found it on the xray of my luggage. They removed it, holding it up and asking "what is this?" "Do you have a prescription from your doctor?" Of course they ended up chuking it into the garbage and I emerged from the line a bit redfaced. My husband stood there speechless and tongue tied when the security officer asked what it was used for. We stopped at CVS when we got to our destination and replaced it.Yes, the Astroglide is pretty effective and does not cause UTI. We still get a laugh when we remember our "Astroglide incident".
