Is Xeloda the only chemo by mouth for CRC

Is Xeloda the only chemo by mouth used to bridge from FOLFOX (or any other systemic chemo) to surgery? My husband was on xeloda during radiation and the leisons in his liver grew, just completed FOLFOX and one treatment of avastin alone (was preparing for surgery) was on xeloda, the leisons grew. Has anyone tried any other "bridging" chemo? His leisons didn't ever shrink during FOLFOX, but remained stable and for that we are thankful. Thanks in advance for any info.

    Sorry to hear about your husbands position. I do not know where you are from or how far you want to travel but there was an article about the Nanoknife at the university of Miami. It is being used on liver and lung mets. I would see if I can find the article. I can not remember if it was on the WebMD site. But maybe that is something you can look into for your husband. It does not leave scarring to the liver like the cyperknife.

    Supposedly there are only seven drugs "approved" for treatment
    of CRC in US:5-FU (fluorouracil, Adrucil),;
    Xeloda(capecitabine);
    Irinotecan (Camptosar);
    Oxaliplatin (Eloxatin)
    Avastin (bevacizumab)
    Erbitux (cetuximab) anda
    Vectibix (panitumumab)

    used alone or in mixtures (ie:5-FU with leucovorin and irinotecan=FOLFIRI)

    There are a number of other drugs going thru various clinical/testing stages currently.

    Xeloda is the only one in pill form so far.......steve

    I'm not a doctor! But, I wonder if you might want to be asking your oncologist/medical team about what other treatments ('cocktails', combinations) they might be suggesting next.

    For example, I had FOLFOX before. Now (I've had another recurrence) I will be switching to Xeliri - which is using the pill (yea!) Xeloda but combining it with Irinotecan instead of oxaliplatin (So, you could say it's the pill form of FOLFIRI).

    Another combination my docs considered was using Erbitux (wtih 5FU or xeloda) but I can't use that one because I have a gene mutation (or, as I like to say, I am a mutant!).

    There are other drugs/combinations out there! I joke (ha ha) that all I need is for the pharmaceutical industry (and the FDA!) to stay one step ahead of me.
