pet scan shows activity five weeks after oxi and 5FU Push

My son last fall had 6weeks radiation and six weeks 5 Fu Push then re-section, a month later a reversal of the illy and then four months oxi every other week ending in March.
The Onc Dr said she feels he is cured. Four weeks later he has the port removed. Just a couple of weeks later he has had a Pet Scan ( last Monday. The surgeon calls a week later and wants to do a sigmoidoscopy on Wed, May 5. He was told a week ago he has a tear (a guess a fissure). The surgeon stated that it is very early to be showing activity. Could this be inflamation from being constipated? Help. I believe that our prayers have shown us that he truely healed. What do you all think?

    Without knowing what stage your son was at it's a little hard to say. I think people rush to judgement to get this thing over. Just like it takes time to get cancer, it takes time to get rid of it.

    Also, you should wait after you submit the "Post Comment" button, I think you posted this 5-6 times. It often takes a little bit of time depending on how many people are on the site for the post to take.

    Thank you for your comment. My computer froze and then played catch up. Sorry. My son was Stage 11B. The doctor is curious why so soon anything would show up. Tomorrow morning he will have his sigmoidoscopy. I know he is healed his Onc said as far as she is concerned he is cured. His blood work has been great for months. Please pray for a clean test. I mentioned a fissure along with this post as I had seen in past posts where other
    cr survivors had had them and wondered if the swelling and inflamation would affect the pet scan. Again it has only been a month since he got off of his oxi after four months. The surgeon was vague only stated that their was something in the colon and he wanted to quickly check it out.

    is your son complaining of pain during and or after bowell movements? you alao mentioned constipation? yes, constipation can lead to an 'anal fissure' but i'm not aware if a fissure that can develop further up the intestinal trac? if this is a fissure i think you'll find a surgeons first reaction is to do nothing and see if this will heal on its own. surgeon may prescribed laxitive and or stool softenors and even a modified diet so as to help in the healing by not having to strain in any way during bowell movements. let us know how your Doctor/Surgeon visit goes. were all hoping for the best!!!
