Possible Blockage?

My mom is 1 week post op as of yesterday (tumor removed from rectum and temp ileo to let it heal) and was doing great until this morning. She got up, had a bowl of cereal and some OJ, then went back to bed for a bit. Got up again around 8:30 and got sick. She noticed she also wasnt getting much out of her ileo so she called the dr's office. The nurse said to drink clear fluids and walk a bit and if nothing got better to call back at 11. Well, in the meantime she did all that and started having acid reflux. So she called back and went in to the dr's office at 1. They sent her for bloodwork and x-rays and while waiting for the results in the dr's office she got sick again. They admitted her to the hospital for IV fluids and said she could possibly have the beginning of a small blockage. She will have more x-rays in the morning. She looks worse today than she looked right after surgery. I am so worried about her. Has anyone else had this happen?

    I had a similar experience. It was not quite as close post op however. That to me would be a possible indication of a blockage. I was close to being released after surgery and luckily they would not let me go until something showed up in the bag. Nothing showed up and I began to have symptoms just like you describe. My surgeon, being the aggressive guy that he is, opened me back up and found that my intestines had wrapped up around a protective mesh that they had put in to help sheild my testicles from possible radiation treatment later on. It would have never resolved itself and if my surgeon had not been aggressive it would have been a life threatining problem.
