I'm having my surgery this thursday!!! Little freaked out but I'm very positive. I'm hoping that they won't have to remove the whole thyroid.... I just want to be back home asap and recover. :)

Hi, I came through my surgeries fine. The toughest part was the getting the anesthesia to wear off and I had a large nodule so it drained alot after surgery so the tube had to be in there longer than usual. Just be sure to keep up on your pain medication so you can keep it under control. Surgery is scary, but I didn't have any of the complications they warned me about.

    Good luck
I hope all goes well for you, My last surgery (a completion thyroidectomy) was the beginning of December and aside from a hard few hours , bad reaction to pain meds, it was fine. Bring books, computer, things to keep you occupied. How long will you be in the hospital?

    Wishing you the best

I'm sure they will give you
I'm sure they will give you a script to take home. Keep it under control. Ask about starting Synthroid right away so you don't get weak. My endocrinologist said I should have. If you have to do RAI they can remove it before that chemically.

    Hi
Ok so yesterday I had my surgery and I'm little confused...well let's start from the fact that when I woke up I was throwing up like crazy so the kept me in the hospital until 10pm. I was very calm, not nervous at all and everybody were surprise even me. The doctor told me that they removed left side and they didn't find any cancer, he said that we will have to wait for the results to make sure, so I hope they won't find anything because I don't want the right side to be removed.
When he told me that he didn't see any cancer I was happy but now we have to make sure so I should know the results in 2 weeks.
Today I feel ok, very little pain in my neck nothing I can't handle... I'm actually doing better then I thought. I'm going to see him in 2 weeks for a follow up. I hope I will have a fast recovery. God is good

    everything ok?
Mine was scheduled for the 23rd, but the blizzard screwed it up so I don't have a new date yet. Good luck and keep us posted (I know you already had it, so good luck in recovery and I hope it's going well)

What do you mean they can remove it before that chemically?? Everyone I've talked to had to go through the weeks of no Synthroid first, though some people were about to use something whose name I can't remember to make it easier (Thyrogen? Or is that something else completely? Can you use Cytomel when you're supposed to be going hypo because it clears your system so quickly? why can't I remember anything?)

    So you didn't have any
So you didn't have any cancer? I thought you had papillary. I don't want to scare you, but my surgeon said if you have any cancer the whole Thyroid has to be removed. If you did have a papillary diagnosis, at some point, I would ask some questions. I am glad you are doing well in your recovery. God IS good!!!

    Yes, chemically with
Yes, chemically with Thyrogen. I also went weeks with no Synthroid and got Hypo, but when I went to my endocrinologist she said I should have started it right after surgery to keep the remaining thyroid tissue from trying to create hormone and possibly make more cancer cells. I don't know what Cytomel is.
