Hey All

I know some of you have gone through liver resection. I just had one 2 weeks ago from an anal cancer that spread to my liver. Feeling pretty good, and the surgeon was amazed how quick I recovered in the hospital. Since being home, have just kind of plateued. I know I'm expecting too much, but can anyone share some their stories??? Just wondering how long your recovery periods were....did you drink again :). I'm missing my wine!!!! What was your follow up, etc.

THANK YOU!!!!

Get plenty of rest and don't pick up anything heavy!
Had my 60% resection in April of 09. I was back to work in 8 weeks, was still walking a bit slow, but back to work. I do have an occasional glass of wine, but always make it a red wine, like a Merlot, because it's good for you and has as omega 3, a cancer fighter.

    Take it easy!

    liver resection
Had mine on june 10 of 2009. Did real well in the hospital. Pain was an issue (but always is). Went home on about the 8th day. Got home and it felt like I had been hit by a truck. I was amazed at how much that surgery took out of me. The surgeon said we could do it again if need be but I dont know if I could make it through another one of those. I quite drinking the day I was diagnosed. For me the benefits dont out number the risks. I have a real nice scar. Looks like I got bit in half by a shark. I could show it off but I have a colostomy and I dont think people want to see that. Folow up was the same chemo regime as I had before the surgery. Did that for about 4 months post op. Just had my scan and it can back ned.

I agree that you have to watch the heavy lifting, you could blow out your abdominal cavity. I had many things done at the same time so my recovery time was longer than most people's probably. As far as wine goes, my onc is not a fan of drinking after one's liver has been compromised but the nurses all said that a little here and there is fine...but don't tell Dr K I said so!!!

    Everything in moderation

    THANKS EVERYONE!

I had my first follow up yesterday. He said a little wine would be Ok, but wouldn't over do it, so we'll see. Also, said I'm doing great, but basically eluded to the fact that this is a cancer that just likes to come back....so to have fun! There was s tumor in my abdomen as well as one tumor on my liver. So he took the whole right side, and my gall bladder.
What type of prognosis did you all receive as far as long term????

I also look like a shark took a nice bite out of me :). I had 1/5 of my lung removed in 09, so I'm pretty well a "scar baby" at this point~~
