I'm 25 years old, last wednesday I got diagnosed with thyroid cancer, papillary, which shocked me. I exercise, eat good, don't smoke drink or take drugs. I will have my surgery hopefully next month. On top of everything today I went to my dermatologist to check my moles (I have so many of them) he said that the one on my back looked suspicious and he will have to cut it off and send it to lab. I was positive that this will be easy and painless procedure, well I was surprised. He gave me 2 shots that felt like hell and back, he took out the whole mole plus from what I believe some other stuff because I needed stitches plus now my back hurts so bad. I'm so lost right now, so scared and I can't stop crying. I have to wait for the results which will take more then 10 days. What is the chance that they will come out negative and that I don't have another cancer??? Why would he take something out if he didn't think it was cancer???
I'm so scared, there is a chance that one month I'm diagnosed with thyroid cancer and second with skin cancer!!!! Help please

    Hi Blair,
I do not know what the chances are of negative vs. positive, I guess 50%. I wish I could tell you. You are starting your journey with cancer and I know it is scary. I've been there myself. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer February 2009, had radical prostatectomy March 2009. My PSA was 22 before surgery which is bad, but my PSA post surgery is now .008 which is FANTASTIC. My wife was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma with 3 tumors on her lung July 2009. She is currently responding very well to the IL2 chemotherapy. Last CT scan showed one tumor gone and remaining two reduced very signifcantly. We have kept a positive attitude all through our journey and done a lot of praying and have a lot of friends and family praying for us.

This bulletin board is a good source of information and support. There are a lot of good people on this cancer survivors network.

Please let us know your test results.

    You're welcome
You are welcome. Just remember that God does not give you more burden than you can handle.
Miracles happen every day. I feel your pain and I understand how you feel now. When I first found out I had prostate cancer I was thinking I've had heart bypass surgery July 2002 and in good health and now I have cancer, why me. Well here I am now almost a year after the prostate surgery and cancer free. Just keep a positive attitude and say I'm gonna beat this cancer. Prayers are answered, I know. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

    Call your dermatologist
Call your dermatologist office and ask for your results. When I had my mole removed it was on a Friday and they called me on a Wednesday with the results. It should not take ten days unless maybe you live in a rural area but even then ten days it too long.
As far as removing something suspicious from the people I know, one of them being my sister, it is not an uncommon practice. I know she's had a large area removed on her back that required stitches; the pathology report came back negative. She's actually made the comment that she will probably never wear certain types of bathing suits because of the various scars she has from the removal of suspicious moles.
And the comment you made about exercising, eating good, not smoking is oh so familiar. I made the same exact comments when I was diagnosed. Life is crazy eh?

    Hey
I spoke to my doctor on wed, he said because I have BCBS insurance the whole process is slow. So I'm waiting for monday to come. I'm glad your sister's results were negative, I pray mine will be. I don't really care about scars I just know that I will never leave my house without a sun screen.
Yup life is crazy, what happened with your mole?

    Black Ribbon
BCBS! Now I know why you cryed so much. I know they have different insurance packages but overall they are a horrible entity to deal with.
I believe you can click on my photo and it will take you to my profile page it has the basic story.
The update is this May/June will be my 5yr cancer free anniversary which is an important milestone. Wohooo!

    Hi
Yes me too, but the doctor now told me that he wants to remove my other mole from my leg that he never seen before (because I always had my pants on) but I'm very positive so I know everything will be ok :)
