Not sure if I spelled it correctly, but I've had a hell of a time dealing with nausea. I only have 5 more treatments to go, but that's about 15-20 days of feeling like total crap. Since I've gone back to work, I really can't afford those off days. My onc. nurse has made it her personal mission to resolve this. (Gotta love her!) She going to get with the Dr. to add this Emmed to my current coctail. She's plans on IV'n it with my treatment next time and if it works getting me the pills. I know they're expensive, but they have said they have plenty of samples to take care of it. My only thing is, now, I'm taking Ativan and Compazene and all that does is knock me out. I hate that feeling. Will this just do the same thing and knock me out all day? I have to get work done those days and can't just sleep all day. Any info or advice with this med. would be appreciated.

Thanks,
DJ

    Hey DJ,
    Emend has worked

    Hey DJ,
Emend has worked great for me. No drowsiness and very effective. It is expensive but worth it. I barfed and barfed for my first 2 treatments. My doctor added emend to the iv and started me on pills for day 2 and 3. Haven't thrown up since. There is also a steroid that goes with the pills. Initially I got a few free sample packs from the hospital. Good luck.

    Emend
I started on Emend after my second Folfox treatment. It was magic for me. I got it IV on the day of treatment and then by mouth (1 tab) on day 2 and 3. I also used Zofran in between for any nausea. The Emend was $550 for 4 pills, but my insurance covered all but the $25 co-pay. I didn't have any drowsy feelings. One more thing I added to my nausea regime was using the Sea Bands, you know the ones for sea sickness. Someone gave them to me and I wore those as well. Probably all overkill, but I don't do nausea and vomitting very well!

Its the oxy doing it.. I left oxy out of the last 2 treatments and it was like being off treatments...I too had a heck of a nausea battle, bad, but the end of treatments is near. The oxy was withdrawn because of neuropathy issues I was having but the dismissal of it also did away with the nausea...It is also what kills the crap out of the bad cells so ya kinda have to weigh the issues..It may be that the 7 you have done (if they are for mop up) may be enough but that is a decision to be made by someone other than me. I did 10 with and 2 without oxaliplatin, but thats me...the emend did a good job but still wasn't enough for me...compazine was like a placebo for me as was zofran and anzemet...The emend worked the best but I was still pukey (is that a word?)...Good luck with decisions and it may be the emend kicks it for ya, I hope so....

    I've heard excellent things
I've heard excellent things about Emend. I really hope it works for you.

I know what you mean about the Compazine though. It's like a placebo. Doesn't do a thing for me, either. I'm asking for Zofran this next treatment. If that doesn't work, I'm asking for Emend. Right now I get Aloxi with my treatments, but I have to something better for home.

    Hi,
**** has been on Emmend since his 2nd treatment. He has had 20 treatments and he does feel run down during chemo but he does not throw up. He believes the Emmend has been very helpful.

    Best to you.

    Aloha,

    Emend
Emend is my MIRACLE drug. I cannot do this without it.

I had to start my chemo in the hospital this time to do oxaliplatin desensitivity, and they did not have Emend ordered. I REFUSED chemo until they ordered it. That is how important it is to me. That is how much difference it makes for me.

I cannot take Compazine - I am allergic. Zofran gives me awful headaches. Ativan I only take at bedtime because it does help knock me out (only after day 3 on cycle).

My protocol is Emend, Aloxi and Decadron pre-meds, then rather than only 2 days of Emend pills, I am on 3 days because of the severity of my troubles. I hope Emend does for you what it does for me.
