edited March 2014 in Ovarian Cancer #1
My sister got a phone call from her Dr. to give her the results of her ultrasound. She said that her ovaries were small and shrivelled. No sign of any tumors or anything in the abdominal area.My sister said she never thought she'd be so happy to hear that a part of her was "small and shrivelled"!!!haha If you recall, my sister had a CA-125 of 45.I'm happy for my sister, but I'm still concerned for her. This actually has been a couple of months now and I guess worry doesn't just go away in an instant.I wanted to get your inputs, is there something else she should be doing? I know she will have an appointment with her Dr.I keep hearing how this is such a "sneaky" cancer - I don't want it to sneak up on her! I want to be happy for my sister, but I guess I need to be convinced that I should be. I soo appreciate all of your inputs. Thank you in advance. I'm hoping that she'll just get her ovaries out! No need whatsoever for hers. I wish you all the best!! Be well!!

    Good News!
What good news! You know sometimes a CA125 can rise because of a fluctuation in your hormones or I have even heard from certain foods. Your sister may want to ask for another CA125 to see what her count is now. If it hasn't changed than that may be her base number. I know how scary this can be and I hope that you and your sister can find a peace with her diagnosis.
    Good luck

    thanks
Thanks for the response!I think that you guys on these boards are my "experts". I'm not the one going to the Drs. and having the tests done - it's my sister. I guess getting the info through her isn't convincing enough for me.Believe me, I know that family will do what they have to do to protect each other sometimes. I do believe that my sister is happy with the news and maybe even "at peace" with it. I guess I didn't get that yet. I do know, Jami, that you replied that it was good news, I found myself crying buckets....and I can't seem to stop - even now! I'll be back...I seem to need a good cry break! Sometimes that can do wonders!

    Feeling fortunate
I'm better now! I think...I came out of that cry just feeling so fortunate. I really did rely on all of you through that whole scare with my sister. I am more at peace than I was when my sister told me yesterday the good news. I'm sorry that I wasn't happier for her. I told her I was going to run the news by you guys and she liked the idea! I do know that I now have such a strong desire to help raise awareness for the "female cancers". I am a breast cancer survivor(going on 2 yrs.), so I'm very aware of the resources for BC. I mentioned before that I do go to a support group locally for BC. We did mention recently to expand our support group to the other female cancers. Especially after dealing with all of you wonderful women - you all helped me tremendously- I want to make that happen. I'm so happy that you all at least have each other on these boards!!

Smiles for you! Glad that you are feeling better. Knowing your story I now understand why at first your couldn't be happy. When you have had a cancer it is hard to believe when things turn out good because so often all we hear is bad news and the outcome is not always good. I am glad that you are allowing all women into your group. Some women out there that have ovarian cancer don't have a close OVCA support group to attend and having other women to talk to is so helpful. Congratulations on being a survivor of BC!

    Thanks for being there
Hearing your positive feedbacks seems to be making the positive news more and more real for me. Like I said -you guys are my experts!! Now I hopefully cry only tears of happiness.I had said to my sister when she gave me the goos news that now she needs to get those ovaries out- we don't want anymore scares like that. She already started about not being sure about it because her work needs her. Here we go.....I have to remember, it's not really in my control!!I'll do what I can and that's really all I can do. We all do what we gotta do!! I can't thank all of you enough for being there for me.I hope that 2010 will be a healthy and wonderful year for you all. Hey! You know what?! You guys also helped me with the computer as well!! Remember when I said I wasn't very computer savvy? Well, because of you I actually did something on the computer that I never was able to do before!! See how great these boards are??!! Sorry I can't finish this with hearts or something (I don't know how to do that yet), but I can do this...:):):):)
