dr told my brother he has to eat everything room temp, nothing cold

does any1 kno y that wud b. i can understand stay out of the cold not to breathe any germs, he is on chemo and taking a break right now after 25 radiation treatments, its in his sacrum, hes kinda upset that, the doctors, r not in agreement about treatments, radiation says its contained in that one area, (sacrum) chemo dr wants to treat his whole body, dont understand y everything is such a scret when its his body, i told him to get a copy of his latest test results and i wud try to look it up on computer. they will not give him a specific answer if this is going to kill him. they call it stage 4, i kno that is bad, he is so fragile to look at him, but says he feels good, finally outa pain. but he only weighs about 119 but his avergage weight is about 140 so i dont think that is to bad. any opinions or input greatly apreciated, thanks. thanks, tina

    Stages are 1-4 but that is not a death sentence.

    I don't think getting his results and trying to look it up on the computer is the answer. Remember, what you read online is for THAT patient and not your brother or it's that PERSON'S opinion. Brother should have his doctors meet to discuss options and decide on what is best for him.

    The reference to cold is because his chemo causes extreme sensitivity to cold things. It actually felt like I have ice in my throat when I'd try to sip cool o.j.

    especiaLLY if your apartment or your living quarters, a house etc, doesn't get much heat like my apt. Yesterday I drank A can of CVS brand nutrition plus that was "room temp" but it was in low 20s outside, Halfway thru my throat choked/closed up on me where I could not inhale, could not talk but when I finally remembered to get warm/hot water in my mouth it had subsided but it was so friegthening to me....See if brother can gain calories/nutrition with BOOST,Ensure drugstore brands-I use "plus" for the 100 extra calories in same amount of liguid. Started off myself at 178,weighed 146 yesterday!!!!!!When my rad ended after(don't remember if 30 or 35 treatments -w8ith chemo prior to op) my radiation doctor told me the pain will kick in real heavy for next three weeks and she was absolutely right-don't know if same for your brother. Its important to have trust/confidence in those treating you with honesty You have a right to know your status and to see reports,etc. I always get my blood reports used by onc to see if chemo can continue and compare current with most recent Even have color copy of biopsy from colonoscope....Good luck in your battle-as caregiver-if thats what you are too- it hits you as well as your brother and tho difficult at times try to think positive, be strong and ask away on this site and the good people here will steer you in the right direction. I'd be lost without them..Within the hour I'll be taking car service to my cancere center to return my pump, have pICC lines flushed and bandaging redone....Steve

    The oncologist probably wants to treat the whole body with chemo to kill off any rogue cells floating around. Stage IV is not a death sentence, it is very serious, but can be knocked down. I don't get copies of George's reports because I do not understand much of the terminology but many people do get copies, that is a personal choice. Our oncologist and his PA goes over the entire report(s) with us. George lost lots of weight after his surgery because for a few weeks between diagnosis and surgery and chemo he was on a restricted diet, once he started eating regular the weight came back. Chocolate Ensure was a drink that worked well for George. Take care - Tina
