I have downloaded Google Earth some time ago and I just thought of a great idea...I just typed in my home address and clicked on go to and it shows my house and 40 acres. The pic is about 4 years old because my sisters house isn't showing up there yet. If anyone has google earth downloaded it would be a great tool to use just to see where your friends on here live...its pretty cool to do...all ya need is a street address and city state. It goes from a picture of earth down to your place of residence.......its a free download...

I tried this before, but my address doesn't show my house, just a general local of where it is. Maybe with you and 40 acres it can pick out your property, but I did see my house and my daughter was living her then because her car was in the driveway. Oh that seems so long ago and it was. Oh an obviously it was trash day too. Wish she was back - oh wait, but just for a minute :)

my house shows up from above and if you go to google maps, there are a lot of streets that have been put on this program, you can literally go down my street and look at all the houses, very bizarre...... Oh and Kim, I have a moment when I want my son to be back home but it goes away very quickly!

Yup I have those spontaneous moments as well. Glad all 8 kids are out of the house. Just can't take the noise anymore and the grandkids give me that high level pitch I need for about 45 minutes and then I'm done as well :)

8 KIDS???????? Your screen name should be Saint Annabelle!
No grandkids here yet, my oldest is getting married in August and the other son is graduating high school in June ( or should I say, he better be, he hates school. Always has)

I had to call the school on both my boys on the last day of school to see if they were graduating. Oh I hated those days and both boys says yeah mom, I'm doing fine. Yeah right. I'm hoping the rest of your year with you're boy goes smoothly. Oh my goodness. I think all that stress gave me cancer - no all three doctors said I didn't do anything to contribute it - it just happened. Congratulations on the marriage, could be grandkids in the future soon for you :)

As a long time Internet crazed fool (having a website when I could have
as easily registered "Ford.com" as a domain)... I learned early on, that
privacy should be protected 24/7/365.

My fellow Amateur Radio friends weren't concerned about having
their call sign as part of their email address or car plate number...

And most all of my friends, despite my warnings, used their real
full name as part of their email address, and/or on forums,
and usually gave out their address to anyone.

Personal "home pages" carried their name, address, and even
phone numbers.

Now.... we have "blogs" with not only all the names and address',
but with detailed information regarding vacation plans, along
with departure and return dates!

How wonderful all that information is to a common thief. No more
rummaging through garbage cans to get enough information to
steal identity, or rob a home.

And now the best news of all! A simple Google can not only
provide the exact location of the home, but the "bad guy" can
see just how affluent a person might be, by having a picture
of the home and surrounding area in an instant!

Say, isn't that a 50' yacht in that backyard?

Yup. It's fun out here in cyberspace!

You just never know who will drop by when you're not home.

My house shows, but it's an old picture, we cut down all those ugly junipers when we moved in. Now we have grass completely around the whole house which is a block long. It's been three years but they still have not updated the picture.

whew, never thought I would be glad to not have those things, someone would take a look at my house and just keep right on going! What with the 1970"s siding of brown and yellow (ewwww) that I cannot afford to change, and the driveway with all the cracks, you would think we did not have anything! When I give directions to my house, I tell people to look for the large brown beautiful century colonial and when you see it, drive right past to the dumpy house next door!
Seriosly though, it is not bad, it just looks like a 1950's ranch disguised as a 1970's ranch!

I live in Orange County NY, not very far from Tuxedo NY. Yes, that is where the Tux came from. It is VERY affluent, many celebrities live there or have a summer "cottage" there. I've tried to google earth it and it's blurred out. Amazing what a few hundred million can do now-a-days...

As far as the yacht goes, I sold it 4 years ago....

Go to www.Bing.com/maps

Type in your address. (You'll have to put it in twice - it wants to pull up driving directions for you. Or put another address in if you want driving directions.)

Choose aerial view - and from there choose the birds' eye view. You can zoom and rotate and see ALL sides of your house. It is a lot more impressive than Google Earth.

You can see 2D, 3D, road or aerial. Aerial is by far the best.

Both Google Earth and Bing have a picture of my house from before we bought it...and we've been here almost 9 years. We have added a back patio, a split rail fence, new trees and landscaping - none of it shows up.

But it's cool just the same to be able to zoom right in.... Vicki

I saw an app for the iPhone called Google Street. They have it on the earth version too I think but this lets you type in an address like you said and you can see your street or a place you are looking for. We did that with my sister in laws house on Thanksgiving and we could see her car parked out front. It was an older photo but shes only been in there since Aug.
Amazing technology
