Time to vent about health insurance

We get calls from health insurance salesman and when we tell them I had cancer and now Parkinson's, they can't get off the phone soon enough. So now when they call we tell them they won't cover us and why and they say thank you and hang up. The only reason I've got health insurance at all is a high risk pool through the state but it's very expensive and I have a high deductable. I'm thinking it would be better to drop the insurance. It's only there if a major event like return of cancer comes up. We are spending all this money on premiums for nothing. And every year it goes up. They just informed us that it's going up about 4% in January. And that number is held down because they got a grant or something or it would have been 8%. Ugg. We just got a call from a salesman and had to vent. I wish they'd stop calling.

    I am in
    Marcia,
I am very sympathetic to your situations. rI addition to cancer I have bee fighting with my health insurance for the past 14 months. I have 300 pages of EOB, 20 pages of collection notices, numerous e-mails and promises for stopping providers go after me. So far my outstanding balance after all treatments about $10,000,00. They did not have any problems collecting premiums when I was healthy and visited doctors only for annual check-ups.

    Vent all you Want
Marcia, I also sympathize with you. I have insurance now through my employer; otherwise, I am uninsurable. Talk about pressure to perform at work.

There are laws about telemarketing. You might look into removing your telephone number from national telemarketing lists.

    We ALL have to keep
We ALL have to keep badgering our representatives in Congress. Health care is not a license, it is a right!

    Marcia, I have my health
Marcia, I have my health insurance through my employer so I'm sure my premiums are now where near as high as yours. My suggestion would be to maintain your current insurance, if you can. Hopefully, you never need it but if by chance you did, you have it. Is it a catastrophc policy? If not, maybe that would save some money. I think insurance is a necessary evil!! Just my thoughts.

    Health Care
Marcia, best wishes to you dear and I won't even ever understand the mess the health care organization is in but I do sympathize with you.My wife's diagnosis over 2 months ago led us to go with COBRA which I suppose is better then nothing at all but the monthly expense of this program is sometimes over bearing for a family as many well know. She was permanently removed from work on account of how far she travels to work each day. I also felt this was best but I can only say that any help we have been looking for as far as assistance has only ended with doors slammed in our face. She has looked at all options from state, county, regional as well as SSDI which we have both paid into for over 30 years to only hear from a representative " If your illness is not terminal and/or you will be unemployed for more then a year then sorry we can not help you " This is what we all work so hard for in this country as tax paying citizens but yet it will be given freely to some individuals who do not deserve it !! Ok , I'm done my rant , sorry but this makes me some angry when you see people bleeding the system and others fighting for their lives. Teresa and I wish you ladies all the luck in the world since we are all gonna need it .

    Best Wishes

    Thanks Steve....
I agree with you 100% and darn it....I want my money now! I may not be here when I am 67 to collect, then what? Take my share and give to the ones that are just getting a free ride? Why should they get my money I paid into since I was 13 years old? If anything, give what I put in there to my family. Oh, I forgot, they get a $225 death benefit. Hmmmm.....so what happens to the other $250,000 I paid into it? I think we should desinate what happens to our money even if it's only picking a charity we want to recieve it!
Uh oh, look what you did! Your in trouble now, mister....I'm on a roll!!! LOL

Why you cannot file for SSDI benefit? Do you need to be ill for 1 year before filing?
I am very sorry for our wife situation, but I agree it will be much better not to work during treatment.
