My Mom is fighting Stage 4 lung cancer

This is extremely hard to write. I don't even know where to begin. I came home a couple of days ago from college to find out my mom is fighting this horrible disease. I am almost 21 years of age and am not ready to let go of her. This is Absolutely shocking. Despite being extremely scared I know I have to be strong for her! I told her we were going to fight this together. She is my rock, my absolute everything. Just reaching 59 this year I know she still has a lot of fight and life ahead of her. She went through her first chemotherapy on Wednesday and will be going for her next in three weeks.

Hoping this online group will help a little with questions. My grandmother and my dad are not really capable of taking care of her and financial situations are at the point we need all the help we can get. My heart goes out to everyone here. I never thought it would ever hit this close to home.

cayaloveshermom, You have the right attitude that you and your mom will face this toghether, that is one important part of this battle, I realize that things can and will get harder. Both emotionally and financially, but your mom and you have to focus on the positive and let the negative go.
I speak from experience in that regard, if you read my bio you'll see my wife and I have ran through many hard and rough times but we keep going because we keep a positive attitude and refuse to let the negative get the best of us. You both need to live for today and cherish the time you have, there is no time limit, there are many survivors that are still going strong many years after they were diagnosised. No one expects to get cancer, it is a disease that has no boundaries and attacks without warning.
We have lost our House, our financial situation is one I wouldn't wish on anyone, but somehow I know that we will get by, and my wife is right by my side. Our Children do the best they can, but they have our grandchildren to care for also, so we refuse to let them do to much.
I can only stress that a positive attitude and being there for your mom, supporting her decisions wheter you agree or not, is very important in this battle, and prayer is a major part of our getting through this.

Our Prayers and Best Wishes to Your Mom,You and Your Family,

Dan (cobra1122) and Margi Harmon
