Bowel Procedure

My mom has been in the hospital for a week now. She had a tube inserted and it was taken out on Wednesday or Thursday last week.

A GI doctor came in to tell her about a procedure that she should think about having.

My mom has had many bowel obstructions since May. The doctor did say that the tumor is pressing against her sigmoid colon (I am not convinced this is Ovarian Cancer sometimes) and the obstuctions could be the cause of it. Is that true? I'm not sure if I understand it quite properly.

Anyways, I spoke to my mom over the phone about the procedure (I'm sick at the moment so I can't see her) and I agreed that she should have it done because it will benefit her in the long run.

The procedure is: something (She didn't tell me a lot of details) is inserted into her bowel to prevent obstructions. The procedure will take 45 mins to an hour and she will be put under general anesthia.

This procedure will prevent blockages and will allow things to pass through smoothly.

Have any of you ladies had issues with bowel obstructions? How common are they in OVCA? Was there any procedure that was done to fix it?

My mom said that she had thrown up tonight. She hasn't done that in a while. She said it was green bile.. She has been eating broth the past couple of days since she got the NG tube taken out. She won't be on regular foods until after the procedure.

In addition, my mom's gyno/oncologist said that her CA-124 is climbing. It went from 124 to 180's. He said that he would like to put her on this new chemo. It began with a V.. I don't remember the name!! I was hoping that I would find out here..

But my mom will remain on the Taxol.

Thanks in advance!

    Very Common
Dear Brittany, it is very common for ovarian cancer patients to have bowel obstructions. I have dealt with them in the past, and I also have a very large ovarian tumor on my sigmoid colon as well as inplants along my colon wall. So I would think if they could anything to help her that is wonderful. sending lots of hugs ♥ prayers your way. BonnieRose

    Dear Brittany
I, too, have an ovarian tumor on my sigmoid colon. Looks like this is pretty normal, huh? I am careful to take stool softeners and laxatives as needed to prevent an obstruction. So far I have not had one. It is good to know that there is something that can be done about it. The sigmoid section is the colon part right before the rectum so it is in the lower left side. That is also the portion of my colon that got diverticulitis. The tumor has caused the colon to be "out of shape" as shown on my CT scan. I took 19 doses of Taxol before it stopped working on me. Well, today was my mom's
Well, today was my mom's procedure.

    Things went differently.

My mom was given a liquid to drink to make sure that her bowel was clear for the surgery. She was put under anesthia (sp?) and went to sleep. But she did not know that she had thrown up while asleep... which confuses me.

She says that the doctor will be talking with her tomorrow. In the meantime, my mom still has bile coming out, so another NG tube was inserted into her nose.

I am becoming worried and scared.

Will this ever stop? Will my mom stop suffering from this and live peacefully?
