I had my first chemo treatment today. They gave me antinausea IV meds, decadron, and mag/calcium. Then came Folfox plus the pump of more 5FU for 46 hours. I am tired and achy but doing great. I know I could get smacked as the days progress, but for now I am just thankful to have made it through the first one.

I want to thank those who were willing to "share" with me when I really felt like I did not want to do anything, chemo or natural healing, after surger. I thought well I hope they got it all. I am a IIIB and and many hear asked me if I want to live or die. I chose to live.
Thank you all.
Jan

    Hi Jan,

Congrats on getting through the first day - the fear of the unknown. That is hard. It is fresh enough in my mind (not even a week ago), so I know it well.

I hope the next few days go easy for you. Rest, and most of all make sure you get lots of fluids.

    Yes!
I knew you could do this, heck if I can, so can you! just keep on taking those pain meds or hits of maryjane and it will keep the puking away! but will give you the munchies! that's ok! try eating alot, you don't want to lose toooo much weight!

Yeah, the day after you're unhooked, you'll feel it more, it's not so bad, you're just wiped, and all you can do is just lay there for awhile, but you'll see each day gets better, where you can jump in the shower, sit on the couch and watch T.V..you will bounce back, it takes a few days but you'll be ok!

    Hope it all goes well!
    Hugsss!

Super, just take it as it comes. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
You will make it thru. Rest as much as you can. After a day or two you feel better.

    Just happy to be here!!

    Treatment
    Jan,
My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

I started getting notices from companies about different drugs.
The last one I received was for Emend to reduce nausea during chemo. It was
    sent by nexcura.com.

I haven't been through chemo yet, and don't really know if they will offer it
as a treatment option after I have surgery, so I don't know what you are going
through, but my thoughts and prayers will be with you.

    Blessings,
    Amy

    Emend
My first chemo was sickening, I thought I was dying, I swear, I laid there the whole time for almost a week, the nausea pills I was taking, Zofran and Compazine did not help me at all. The nurses called me for a follow-up to make sure I was ok, and I wasn't I said. I told them what happened, and they said I would not feel like that again. I thought, if this cancer doesn't kill me, the chemo sure will. I was scared to death of going through it again.

Sure enough on the second treatment, they gave me 1-Emend and 3 Decrodon's (dexamethasone, 1-Zofran, and 1-Compazine, and I tell you, it was a lifesaver for me, the Emend really helped, and so did the Dexamethasone. It's a 3 pill deal, you take one Emend on chemo day, then the second day you take one, and then the third, make sure you take it on a FULL stomach, the chemo nurses wait an hour before even distributing the chemo, since it takes about an hour to make it through your system.

Make sure you try that, if all else fails, it was a huge help for me :)

Hi Jan,my hubby is on the same chemo party as you do.Today is the first day for his adjuvant chemo too. They just gave him the anti-nausea meds,no mag/calcium.Then we went back home with the 5-fu for 46 hours.Tomorrow is going to be at the hospital too for the leu.My hubby's surgery went well, pathology report came out good down staging him from stage2 to stage1 because of the preoperative chemo and radiation. But just like what you said,my hubby chose to live and didn't want to leave any chance to this beast,so more chemo. You are in my prayers and I hope all the people who are getting through chemo now will do fine and finish all the treatments smoothly.Good luck to you with the chemo.Take care.

    Hi!
I have just finished up my 4th Chemo same cocktail. It seems to me after each treatment I am more and more tired. This is the big side affect so far for me. I mean I slept off and on for 4 straight days. Are nausea and tiredness the biggest side affects? Does anyone know others? Also I learned that whenever my stomach starts feeling different I take the nausea meds and my appetite immediately comes back and my stomack feels back to normal almost instantly. I was hesitate at first to take it but I will take it anytime it is great stuff. Good luck to you with each treatment and do not hesitate to tell your doctor of anything different b/c chances are there is something magic formula to get you through. Hugs.
