My mother was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in January of 09. She had chemo and radiation. Treatments stopped around June of this year. She seemed to handle the treatments ok. She stopped eating and lost alot of weight but other than that seemed pretty much the same mentally. She has had 2 scans and both were clear. She can't walk from 1 room to the next without shaking and needing support or a walker, she is falling and getting bruised, she is very confused and can't remember things - short term memory and long term memory. She is having a really hard time. I have a call into her Dr. but have not heard from him yet. I wonder if her medications are causing these problems or did the treatments cause this. I don't understand why she seemed ok and then so long after the treatments stopped she got worse. If anyone has experienced anything similar, I would really appreciate any info you could pass along. Thank you.

    Weakness and Discoordination
My mother-in-law experienced weakness, discoordination and falling as you described. Near the end we found out she had 3 brain tumors (mets of breast cancer).
You said your mom had scans - did you do scans of the brain?
Discuss this with the doctor. I wish I had much sooner for my mother-in-law...though I am not sure it would have made much of a difference in her case.

    Scans
Fatima - Thank you for your reply. I am not sure if the scans included the brain or not. I have that written down to ask the Dr. I will let you know what the Dr. says. Thanks again.

    Spoke with the Dr.
I spoke with Mom's doctor today. He admitted he is puzzeled by Mom's mental problems and weakness. He is going to set up an appt. with a specialist. He said the scans that she has had (2) were of her lungs only. He is going to order a CT scan of her brain. She had one done when this all started so I hope with that as a baseline, we will get some helpful info. If anyone has any other suggestions we would love to hear them.
