Well it was good news about Jacks appointment, with the trachea, It is the right size the problem is his salivia glands are not producing enough salvia, which is keeping his throat so dry, they were suppose to tell us about the salaine bullets, to put in his trachea to keep it moist, see we always learn as we go, I am learning they don;t always tell you everything you need to know , It was the same with his feeding tube, it was like they always leave something out and you have to wing it, I am just thankful that it was something simple, and the doctors said his trachea is healing really well, So Monday we start the second week of chemo, hopefully all will go well, he had a really good day,

    This is the only post I have read by you so I don't know much about your husband's condition, but if he isn't producing enough saliva I am guessing he had radiation treatment? I am a radiation nurse and wonder if your docs have recommended any medications to help with this. There are a couple we prescribe, Salagen and Evoxac, that improve salivary function and are pretty effective. Evoxac is our personal favorite, but both are good and if one doesn't work for him the other might. Evoxac is prescribed 30mg three times daily. Check with your doc to see if it would be appropriate for him.

    trachea problems
    Thank you so much I will speak to his doctor on Monday, and no none of his doctors every recommend any of those medications,and we were just at the ENT on Friday, they advised us to use saline water in his trachea, Jack had 33 days of radiation, It just makes me wonder why the doctors dont think of these things, maybe it is the radiation doctors to decide that, but he has not had radiation since the first of the year, he is just on chemo, But I will talk to his chemo doctor and see what they say, he is so miserable, right now with this trachea, and the ENT doctor tell us it is mormal , for all of this to happening, I just wish I could do something for him we finally get the infections under control and chemo is going good, and his trachea is giving him probelms, I wish Jack could just get a break for a while

    Patty, my apologies for hijacking your thread to ask a question. I was very interested in Nurse Creager's response concerning Salagen and Evoxac. I have a question for her. I have serious saliva problems based on radiation treatment over eleven years ago. Since that much time has lapsed, will It still help my saliva problems?

    Patty, I wish the very best for your husband and do hope that he can recover.
